View Full Version : testing vtr ecu on a furio engine... ecu wrong size???? both single plug ecus

Its probably straight forward but thought I'd double check. An unlocked vtr ecu came threw the post today for my vtr conversion. Will it be safe to just unplug my furio ecu (that isn't unlocked), plug in the vtr ecu,see if it starts, unplug that and then plug my furio one back in and it will stil be ok? Just I need a few more bits before conversion so still need to use mine. This shouldn't cause problems for my ecu will it?

Just remove the immobilizer box before you fit the unlocked one. The original ECU will be fine, as it's got the key transponder and immobilizer box coded to it.
But just to be on the safe side.. remove the immobilizer box whilst running, that should unlock your furio ECU just to be safe.

how do i access that and what does it look like?is it take the steering colum surround off and its in there?is it a lil black box or something? or am i in the wrong place?
saxova

Its near the passenger glovebox.. under there you will find a black box (ill add a pic in a sec)
Then just unplug it, then it can't 'immobilize' your new ECU.

so i just need to unplug that whilst mines running and itl unlock that one too? then try my vtr one in mine. then plug my 1.4 one back in. will i need to put that block back in when i put my original ecu on or will it not matter with that removed? also when i remove the immobiliser what should i expect? the car to cut itself off or carry on running? and with the vtr ecu when i try that it should start but mite sound lumpy? but as long as it starts itl be unlocked?

Yeah, remove that box whilst running and that will unlock your ecu.
It won't make a difference to the car running at all.
You can put it back on with your old ECU as that ecu is coded for that immobilizer box.
You can also leave it off, but that means that the car won't have a immobilizer..
Majority of people leave them off.

http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g432/mcjacko1987/DSCF0389.jpgyou can just see to the right of this pic the plug with nothing on it (you can see this is the location where the grommet is with my amp wire going threw)

is it worth just unpluging my ecu then and try the vtr one? or will the immobiliser lock the vtr ecu then and it wont work?

do i need a vtr loom then?
edit: was told by a couple of peeps that my furio loom will be fine for a vtr ecu
mcjacko1987
28th January 2012, 17:23
so im guessing this is down to not having a vtr loom? or does it mean mine is cross over or what :S

helllllpppppp
saxova
28th January 2012, 19:10
That's weird.
I thought it was either 3 plug ecu or single plug.. crossover was just a different engine-interior loom connector.
Might sound daft but you sure it's a ecu off a VTR lol? Whats it got ontop?
mcjacko1987
28th January 2012, 19:26
baught it off here. if you search on google images for saxo vtr ecu it comes up with the same one, mine is different. i think its probs cos mines a furio and this is for vtr. but like you i thought it was single plug or 3 plug

ebay again lol. searched 1.4 ecu and the result:

looks to me like i need vtr engine loom

Could someone show me a pic of there single plug vtr ecu please or the connection on the loom to t ecu
Simon0014
29th January 2012, 13:13
Weird how they are different sizes. The looms are usually fine, perhaps the ecu is from a different year and being french, consistency in manufacturing doesn't feature with them!!
Mine is admittedly 3 plug but I fitted a vtr ecu on mine. Even drove it on the 1.4 engine just had a few flat spots.

Mite just be the 3 plugs then that are plug n play then, with the 2 searches I did on ebay I'm really thinking I need the loom lol. The ecus I search on ebay match

bit of a bump but my vtr ecu is the same as your 1.4 ecu....
think they made 3 types of ecu.
one was the smaller type single plug,
then the longer single plug and finally the 3 plug.
am i right?

Yeah I think it is. I gave up with the long ecu in the end and just got a 3plug ecu and full loom (engine and interior) was a big job but ahh well lol

Without sounding like a twat (;)) + i havent read it..
1) it would of been easier buying a car with that engine in
2) why not just get the full loom i mean like the lot? instead of bodging different bits to what not? will this ecu fit this naaa chop that single plug to a 3 plug it might work. jeez what a nightmare and setting yourself £££ back each time. Its backwards.
hurhur

You sound a twat and should have read it :P lol
1) I had a car with engine but the head gasket went and the gearbox broke at the same time£
2) I bought a single plug ecu I though would match mine but a vtr one (but it didn't) so I bought the engine loom to match that ecu. But didn't match any sensors. So yeah I did what you have said and bought the 3plug ecu and full loom (engine and interior). Its all in now but ran into another problem which I think is a sensor.
Anyways TWAT read next time ;)

is it not because ones a magnetti marelli (1.4 one) and the other a bosch motronic ecu (VTR ecu)?
I have a magnetti off a vtr and a bosch off a 106 xs both unlocked and they are indeed different :P
Both single plug btw!

Yup they where 2 different makes. I wasn't aware there was even 2 different sizes of single plug ecu as there's people I know with single plug vtr and gtis and all there ecus where same as my 1.4 was. Was told the bosh one I bought was going to be fine (wasn't told about size) then when it came to fitting, loom said no lol. Its all wired up 3plug now so here's no problem other than this sensor or air leak one lol :)
