knocking on steering

ive got a w reg saxo vtr that has a slight knocking when you turn the wheel to the right and when you turn it to the left i get a slight squeking noise, does any one have any ideas?/

im a newbie to all this ..............is that a big job or is it easy enough to do at home?

If you got the basic idea easy, drain gearbox oil, Loosen hub not, then undo ball joint bit fidley to get out but simples :)

Driveshaft...

cound it not just be cv boot? mine came loose and did this, packed it with greese and replaced the boot and all was well for a while.
