Hello everyone!
Just thought I'd post up a thread offering my graphic and web design/dev services.
As I am applying for a full time job currently I need to build up my portfolio so prices are VERY CHEAP.
benwilsongfx.com is my site.
I am not doing any e-commerce sites or member based sites as I don't have the time currently. Thanks, Ben.

Not keen on the MS Word 2002 Word Art here and there.

Funny that, because there is no Word Art at all on my site...

No offence but it doesn't look very professional, e.g where is says contact me. Id put capital letters on and probably remove the full stop amongst a few other things..

There is a lot wrong with my site. It hasn't been updated in a while.
For example...
Borders around linked images,
margins on my #contentholder div should be
#contentholder {
margin-left:inherit;
margin-right:inherit;
}
and a lot of the images are badly designed and don't work. For example the three images on the home page, the captions all use different size fonts. Plus, the link to the DG website, I have since redone that site.
I am working on other sites instead of mine currently. I will completely makeover my site asap.

I would work on your own website before making a portfolio then.

Rather than telling us fix the problems before advertising your site first.. then you would avoid all the shit and create a good impression because looking at your site and the one you designed I wouldn't hire you. Yours looks very unprofessional and the games one you designed looks basic like you've just used a basic template.

Exactly..

I didn't create the graphics on the games one. They did. I just put it into a basic, functional structure. I just wanted to let people know if they need a site, they can come to me for one at about £50...

Clients come first.
Its alright saying that, but I guess you want your portfolio to show your potential new employer.
Look how many remarks and replys you have off saxp of people opinions on the site and we are being alot less critical than what the employer would be.
Its constructive criticism, you took the time to tell us the problems so fix them, why would people want you to make them a website when they check your own personal website and see it looks like a childs book.
Not insulting you, just saying.

I've got until May. I have enough major clients to make my portfolio until then. I just thought I'd put an offer out there.
And to be honest, it seemed insulting..

Wow not a fan its farr too colourful and too much going on, distracts me from the key purpose of the site. Tone the colours down and get the fonts and each page to be very consistent and similar.
For example my friends site http://www.toddmotto.com/
edit: here are a few of his business ventures
http://smashsix.co.uk/
http://matchboxhq.com/ <-- is still being created
ALSO I'D LIKE TO ADD DON'T EVER STATE HOW MUCH THE PRICE OF THE SITE WILL BE. TAKE A VIEW ON PRICE ONCE YOU HAVE THE SPEC FROM THE CLIENT OTHERWISE THEY COULD BEND YOU OVER AND ASK FORR BAREEE STUFF ON JUST ONE PAGE... sorry for the caps lock I didn't realise it was on :oops:

£60 fo a five page website is really cheap, if you want to be a propper web designer (assuming you are good enough) then you have to charge what the pros do.
Undercutting professional prices gives the impression that your work is not upto the same standard.

As previously said, if I was looking for a web designer 100% first impressions are everything based on their own site.

If you want to sell that sort of stuff, you may want to come up with more than one half finished example.
For example...
Borders around linked images,
margins on my #contentholder div should be
#contentholder {
margin-left:inherit;
margin-right:inherit;
}
English is barely spoken in here, you don't seriously expect the members to have a grasp of HTML?

Everyone is a web developer these days, Ben, take it on the chin and go and sort your own website out mate, I deal with lots of people on a daily basis, if their website is shat I don't even bother calling them back.

That's CSS anyway, not HTML ;)

no offense dude, but your site is PAP for a webdesigner,
it looks like a fresh out of skool teenager page,
remember that you may have the skills to build the structure of a site, but it doesnt mean you have the style to make it look good ;)
dont mean to sound harsh but ive made sites for people and they were shit hot at the time, and i dont even do it as a profession

I know it sucks. I know what how do it, but don't have the time to do it so I just made that site as quick as I could. I will have enough time to make something soon though.

inheriting margins will just turn into a bitch when you want to move boxes or redesign things- jus' sayin'

I am totally re-designing. And I only inherit the div that I hold ALL my content it. Plus, I won't be centering my next site, not really a fan of centering any more.

Same here.
Not sure why you took such offence to page one comments, yet on page to you more or less say the same as what the page 1 comments say that you didnt like.
Its ways to improve, surely thats a good thing.
