Was giving the motor some welly this afternoon to warm it up, got to about 3500 rpm when there was a significant momentary drop it power only lasted seconds then power came back. What worries me is the amber engine light has come on. Anyone know what this means please?

Thanks

I'll help you. Don't give it 'some welly' to warm it up.

Why do you need to 'give it some welly' to warm your car up?

Oh well not my engine. :D

I won't get any advise because I've booted my motor?

Fucking hell fellas get a grip!

Because you wonder why your motor is fucking up, yet you start off with that sentence. Go figure....

its becuase you lack common sense when it comes to engines, so what is the point?

My mum even knows it fucks up your engine to give it death when cold

You'll need to get the fault code read to ascertain what's caused the error. There's no clear indication as to why the engine light came up in the first place.

From cold? Who said anything about booting it from cold? Car had only been standing for an hour after an hours run, heater was blowing cold I was freezing needed to warm motor up!

Are we clear now class?!?

Heater gets it's heat from the water that goes around the engine, with the engine being the heat source, ergo the engine must have been cold.

Anyway I don't care, it's not my engine so I couldn't give a stuff. Try a fault code read and take it from there.

Ragging it around still isn't a good idea. The engine was clearly cold. In the future, wear more layers?

Well you`ll need a few more posts before you can post a thread in the parts wanted section(ie a new engine)In the meantime get the fault codes read on a diagnostics machine.

Heater gets it's heat from the water that goes around the engine, with the engine being the heat source, ergo the engine must have been cold.

But the engine doesn't get it's lubrication from the water it comes from the oil which is why you lot jumped on the bandwagon and started having a pop assuming the engine was first start cold when I booted it :clapping:

You know as well as I do even after an hour stationary is still viscus enough to protect the engine components ergo oil was still warm enough to prevent damage which was the point some bright sparks were trying to make.

its becuase you lack common sense when it comes to engines, so what is the point?

It's a car forum where people come for help, I'm guessing that's the point..

Anyway enough verbal :boxing:

are you all just going to bitch about it or you gonna try and help him?
if his engine goes bang then he has him self to blame.
its his choice to rag it from cold.
leave him be.

The cold will probably have something to do with it mate.
No matter what anyone says on here you will need to get a diagnostic test done on the car, This will put up the fault code. and tell you exactly what is wrong with the car. and you can go from there. Should be about £20 for a test like that :)

;)

The oil cools faster than the coolant in engine that's been turned off.

Cheers Anthony!

As it turns out the blip was some water in the diesel that got burned, just drained the fuel filter, will have to at some point get the dash light extinguished.

no worries :) why did the water get in? you need to look at how it got in or you will keep having the problem ! :)

Didn't realise he was talking about a diesel engine.

Water can be in the fuel by:
Shite supermarket fuel and/or running the car with the a low amount of fuel in the tank for ages - especially during winter.

Probably the small water content in the Bio I use.
