recently got a 4-2-1 manifold put on my car which i thought would solve a whole host of problems but unfortunately it moved the centre section rearward and then melted through my fuel tank rendering my car useless and utterly fucked. so now i need a new fuel tank and the garage wants 90 quid for them to source one. so what tank do i need, ive heard that all mks and engine sizes have the same tank, ive also been told that mk1s and mk2s have different tanks, ive also heard there is 35l and 45l ones depending on the car etc. can anyone shed some light on this for me.

me, fair enough but theres a strong possibilty that something flew up from the road prior and hit it as the guy says there was a bang as he was driving along, exhaust system itself was held up with wire to start with lol

not sure but apparently the load bang was "like something flew up off the road", manifold went straight on with no struggles, guys lucky though. When he said there was a petrol leak at the rear i first thought the fuel filter had come away! all i can think is that something did come up off the road and knock the system round against the tank?

Not a clue what the sound was but it seemed quite big at the time like as if id hit someone else trim or something for example, but when i looked in my rear view mirror there was nothing on the road. so i kind of assumed that maybe one of you tools was trapped under my car somewhere then fell out. when i next speak to the garage ill ask if they can see any damage or anything, cos as far as they are aware ive just told em the manifold is longer than the old one, thus melting the tank. do you reckon it could have been the tank coming free and then hitting the exhaust rather than the other way round, did the tank have any contact with the torsion bar or anything? just a thought.

I am stumped tbh lol, this is so weird never heard of anything like it. I would say the wire gave way, that donk being as it system hit the fuel tank. Is the wire still there?

cant say mate, its in my local garage atm, towed it there a couple of days ago. would have thought the wire would have droped the section downward though not backward. if it'll stump you any further Cam the car over heated shortly after the noise and i pulled over to look under the bonnet and it all seemed fine there and the engine didnt seem hot, but i noticed a pool of petrol under the car and then had a look to my dismay.lol. i can only think the engine was getting the wrong air/fuel ratio or something.
