This is literally driving me up the wall :wall:

My vtr - vts conversion rev counter has never worked, so I bought some new clocks but still it never moved.

Easiest option now was to just get an after market rev counter.

I have wired it in absolutely CORRECTLY but still the needle doesn't move, if I re wire it back to ANY of my spare clusters to the correct wire non of them move either.

I heard something about splicing the loom when a conversion is done could this affect it? I know little about saxos to be honest.

Here is the rev counter..

Then the four wires, how hard can it be? Postive, earth, illumination and signal.

The signal is connected the correct wire on the ecu, the green 425

(The picture is blury but it definately is that one)

I put a multimeter on it to see and at idle it is at 0.45v and when revved it goes down to around 0.35v, I have no idea about the siginal conditioning behind it so not sure if that's correct.

I have looked at so many threads and only found two that had similar problems but they either sorted it and didn't update it or never figuired it out.

Any help is appreciated, I have no idea what I am doing wrong.

Thanks

1st off why is the sheething off the cable exposing the copper wire mate?(may sound stupid)

Simply just testing that it works before I start making it more permanent

I emailed the ebay seller 4 days ago.. no reply :(

well you say you have done the wiring right, but are you sure? coz its either that or a faulty product...

If you need some dials.. I have VTR dials showing 80k ish. Yours for a tenner.

But good luck sorting out your existing problem. I fooking hate wiring issues, give me a blown headgasket over a wiring fault any day!

Cheers for the replies

I read that the diagnostic port shows the revs at 50% so if you are reving at 3000 it will only show 1500. I have looked at the wiring diagram and it goes from the 425 straight to the cluster which is the exact cable I am using and no luck.

I have done it right, because it is so simple the only thing you could do wrong is attach the signal wire to the incorrect cable but I have attached it to the green 425 from the ecu even took a picture to confirm. Rest is just power and earth.

The seller hasn't even got back to me, if I have to send another message I will just say it's faulty. The fact the clocks never worked before with it all wired up confuses me though.

Thanks for the offer but I have already gone through two other sets of clocks just to be sure :(

have you checked the the pin has'nt snapped out of the ecu plug if you are taping the wire that go's straight to the dials and you tryed too sets of dials then the problem lies with the ecu mate

This needs connecting to an rpm pulse wire.

crank sensor wire and one of the wires on the diagnostic port offer this.

Near the interior fuse box, there is a small rectangle connector (diagnostic port) going to that connector there should be a wire with 425/426 iirc printed on it.

not sure on colour, but mine was a grey thin wire. and im pretty sure it was lablled as 45. could be diff on other mk saxos. connect the signal wire from the tach meter to that wire, solder/insualte properly and it will work.

also the wire reads the exact rpm - it doesn't half it.

if your confident you have wired this in correctly, then it must be a faulty device.

Cheers for the reply

The pin is all still in tact and I get voltage from it when I test it. I even got a second ecu just incase it was that! I am feeling I have replaced nearly everything it could be haha.

Cheers for that stevo, I had a look a while ago but never found the wire in question. I will have another look tonight - and yes it looks that way to me but it's odd that I have fitted two sets of clocks and they both don't work..

I was thinking it would be a faulty crank sensor or something mechanical that could be causing the issue? But the car starts and runs fine.

Thanks for the advice so far
