Probably just a massive engine cover put over the 1.4 lump or something. Impressive if it's a genuine Porsche conversion though.

+1, must have been a massive challenge to sort the gear box / drive etc.

Ooh, yeah it's been done quite a bit. Still a very fast and reliable conversion though. Would love another mk2 golf with a vr6 one day.

6 cylinder something I reckon so either a flat 6 or V?

VR6's are over rated! They sound awesome but BHP/Litre is shocking!

Didnt know they made a v12?! That golf has got have had quite a gearbox in it then, the torque from that would destroy the standard one

Makes more sense now, the first generation Cayenne was powered by a 3.2-litre VR6 engine producing 250 hp. Modifications in the exhaust manifold allow power to peak at 6700 rpm. This is the same 3.2-litre motor found on a Volkswagen Touareg and Volkswagen R32.

So basically it's just an R32 conversion with the cayenne engine cover as they're interchangeable.

More common than you'd think.

They both are/were VAG

250bhp?!?! really?

poor effort on getting power out!

According to mr Wikipedia! I'm sure the later versions were more powerful though surely?

thats crazy, when you consider BMW's 6 cylinder 3.2 engine was over 70bhp more.

Honda's 3.2L V6 was only 290bhp though iirc...

naaa my friend has a cayenne and her's is pushing out over 300+ hp I'm sure of it.

The Vr6 engine was famously low on power though compared to it's displacement. The 2.9 vr6 from the Corrado / Mk3 Golf is only 180bhp iirc.

Still sounds incredible though.

Agreed! f**k spending all that money on a big engine to achieve only 280bhp! heavy as buggery aswell. Turbo power ftw

The new Cayenne that this is out of produces 300PS book figure, so around 297bhp!

A VR6 is essentially a V6 with a low angled V, each bank on this engine looks too far apart to be a VR6! I know its a cover but you can see each bank and its massive compared to any 2.9 VR6 or R32 3.2 VR6. Maybe Wiki containing crap again as it deffo looks like a proper V6?
