CTL200 V1.3 hadn't display error code, what is the real problem on engine light

Hello, dear friends, my car is VW golf 5, but recently the engine lights sometimes bright sometimes quench in the course of driving, I used CTL200 V1.3 Code Reader check, but it hadn't display error code, my preliminary judge is have some problems on the wire contact or the ignition. Do you have the similar situation? Or what problems may occur? Hope to find out reason.
