Is it just me that thinks Pistonheads has gone totally down hill since they got rid of free advertising...

Used to be able to put in 50 miles from my postcode, cars under 400 quid, and about 200 would come up, tried tonight im lucky if there was 8..

Used to be able to make abit of spare cash buying something from there that didnt have an MOT and breaking it, now there is no chance!

It still is free I'm sure. I listed a few car parts on there few weeks ago, gives you a free option or pay £9.99 option when making the add.

Noop, maybe on parts, not on full cars, i tried to put my megane on a few times, soon as you click to list it, it asks for money

Ohh, its probly for parts then its free.

Maybe its too stop people getting scammed, ie like on saxp you pay to become full member to access for sale section quick, only the genuine adds will be on there.

But you didnt pay over the internet for cars.. you actually went and picked them up, worst that could happen is they wernt as described.. I can only imagine there traffic through the site is down ten fold now! i used to be on there daily, today is the 1st time iv been on since they started charging

Nope its not just you mate, it has gone terrible. There is a lack of cars for sale due to it not being free. I actually sold 2 of my previous vehicles on there when it was free, went to sell the beemer last year an they wanted to charge me, so i didnt end up listing it

It was always interesting to see what people would want to swap if i fancied a change in cars, and likewise when others fancied a change, you dont get that anymore, i hardly go on there and i think others have started to not go on there aswel.

I remember in the first couple of years it was full of enthusiasts who had their cars advertised, and nothing was run of the mill crap on there. You could usually find a few gems on there if you was looking for a particular car.It just seems to be full of dealers advertising their cars, or advertising cars they want, completely ruined it

I was just on there the other day having a gander at saxo vts's, there used to be like 10 pages and there's 2 or 3 now I think, I was quite gutted tbh

You can stick cars on gumtree as its free but you lose top place as when other people advertise their vehicles but for a small fee you can bump it up to the top. Personally autotrader would be better option to sell a vehicle, Pistonhead's is just full of ragged about motors with problems people can't be arsed to fix.

Pistonheads came up with 11 cars within 50 miles of me under 700 quid... All im looking for is something local to pick up and run about in over winter

Pistonheads is awful these days and not just for adverts.

Used to spend hours reading the comments but ad soon as anything different is mentioned they slated it. Even the editors that posted about an air bagged Porsche 964 was slating it. Then the comments were ripping it to shreds too!

Winters nearly over lol...

And iv not been on there for a long time now! Never sold a car when it was free so no way I was paying to not sell one lol

eBay/auto trader is best

I'm swaying towards auto trader or owners clubs more everyone wants everything for nothing on eBay these days and gumtree you get too much shite off there. People asking to ship the car to India bla bla can't be doing with that

Couldnt agree more, just looked afew weeks ago and there was nothing. Use to do the same see what swaps ud get. Mate did very well out of it, dont really get that on ebay. Use to be real specialist ethuist (sp) cars aswell on PH.
Problem is if your looking for a cheap car knowones gonna pay £10 to advertise a cheap car really. Sounds daft but its true only people who are into cars generally use or have heard of PH's.

As said parts is still free but car adds have to be payed for.

Saying that i paid for a premium add for a saxo afew years back and put it on ebay. Didnt have one geniune offer on it through PH's just loads of offers for swaps (including a skyliner!). Sold through my ebay add. Only thing I can think of it the amount of cars on there made it difficult for ppl to find and there for didnt stand out due to all the free adds. Making it abit unfair if u've paid.

Think they would be much better off putting it back to normal and running more advertising space for car parts/dealers etc then charging a premium due to the high number of traffic through the site.

If you paid, your add was usually the 1st listed if it was in that price bracket, so its not like they wernt getting a good chance, also more pictures were allowed and stuff, so the car got much better advertising!

It's wank now.

Used to be hundreds of each model for sale, now it's tens.

May be making more money through fees but I bet there's far less traffic going to the site, less cash from web adverts etc

I've sold 6 vehicles now and I put an add on piston heads and eBay for all of em. They all sold through eBay. Will probably use auto trader and here when I sell the saxo.

It's not pay for everyone, older members don't pay

They changed it to stop ppl joining to sell a car and never going back

Sucks but that's life
