hi there, owned 2 saxos since 17 and im 20 now...getting a bit annoyed of the un-confort.
the trouble im having now is finding a car thats larger, preferably 4 door, and comfy...decent motorway cruiser too.
the only thing thats going to effect the insurance mainly is the group...turbo deisols are out of the question.
so far iv looked at 1.8 vectra's/passats/a4's
but there still a lot for me to insure...but still about the same as a saxo vtr...which we all know is high on insurance for what it is.
any help much appreciated
im just using compare sights as my renewal is far far away....just need ideas

i had a xsara, was a proper banger with all the trimmings, complete with crashed front end and headlights that pointed directly down which was a nightmare the second i drove out of town.

BMW's are cheap as chips to insure, and are economical.

My mate had an old shape 2.5 v6 vectra estate, he's 19 and his insurance is £200 a month. Thats good for that engine as mine is that much on my vtr.

BMW's are no cheaper to insure than any other car of their respective class/type. In fact, due to BMW labour rates, insurance tends to be slightly higher than that of an equivalent sized Ford or Vauxhall.
Example, my e39 535i costs me £80 more per year than my Vauxhall Omega 3.0 Elite. The Omega is IMO a better car in most areas. (ins group 13 and 16 respectively).
Get away from the 'Boyracer' hot hatches...... Insurance companies know that most people who own them like nothing better than a B road blat at full-tilt or a Traffic light derby.
I bought my first 'luxury saloon' when I was 20 and I wouldn't consider owning anything other than a luxury saloon ever again (unless you are in Aston Martin territory).

Phase 3 306 estate? 405 or 406 saloon/estate. Cheap to buy and run, can be made to handle well and the bigger engined ones go like the clappers.
