depends on the insurance company and their/your policy.

going from the thread title im guessing Quinn Direct and fully comp ;)

Same as what Ad said.
I think i am covered to drive anyones car, because in the policy booklet there is no mention of age limits. Some companies state you need to be 21+, but if you are Leckie - remember you are only covered 3rd party ONLY.

If you can't see anything to say you are/ain't, then i say your covered.
Nothing my policy booklet whatsoever, hence why i'v been driving the Fiesta.

it is VERY vague on quinn directs policy it says you can in the handbook but then again it says ONLY IF YOUR CIRTIFICATE SAYS SO. Which says to me no as im fully comp and i dont think i can drive other peoples cars although i am very confused over this. I did drive an ex g/f's corsa with quinn but i assumed it was covered as in the handbook it says you will be covered if : and a list of things like you have the owners permission.
Best to give them a call as their policy booklet doesnt say much on this topic...
loads of quinn direct threads on sax-p now they are getting alot of free advertising :p

If you can't see anything to say you are/ain't, then i say your covered.
Other way round, if it doesnt say anything dont assume you're covered, the Fed's and insurance companies will pound your sweet cheeks if you wollop a car that you arent technically insured on.
Never assume with insurance go find out

This is what i thought as it said section 3 applys to 3rd party fire and theft + fully comp but be ware i believe i was wrong, this policy really isnt clear......i think it could be very missleading!

If you are covered to drive other peoples cars, will it DEFO tell you on the certificate?
Again, can't seem to find anything on mine.

agreed, id assume you cant if it doesnt say anything.
It will state by 'Social domestic & pleasure' use only etc or say 'restrictions' or 'limitations' on your insurance cirtificate but as i said, with quinn it doesnt state yes or no, and the handbook is missleading, phone them leckie, and tell us what they said :p

YES it will say 'you can drive another person vehicle blah blah'
If it doesnt then you arent insured - simple

Does the following mean i'm not insured...
*The driving of other cars extension is not included unless specified in above Section 5'
Saying that i'm not, i was driving girlfriends on her free 7 day insurance. When you pick up new car, you get 7 days free insurance and it states anybody can drive it - so i was covered at the time.

Louise Hullah
Provided that the person driving holds a licence to drive the vehicle or has held and is not disqualified for holding or obtaining such a licence.
That's all.

DarylVTR

althought you keep asking ads not me, il answer it anyway, you do not need to declair any cosmetic mods to your car with quinn, the examples they have me on phone that are fine and they dont want to know about are:
Alloys, Bodykits, Trim, windows etc
Anything to do with engine / suspension / exhaust they do want to know about. BUT your not allowed to fit anything yourself with quinn if your going to declair it, this is a weird thing i found out. They want you to get an 'egineers report form' filled in by the person who carries out the mod (only engine / suspesion / exhaust) to says its been fitted propperly and safely, when i tryied explaining i was going to do it myself they didnt have a clue what i was talking about TBH so i gave up.
Clouds_mate
25th July 2006, 23:07
but all the mods was done before taking ownership.
Altho i do have the recept for fitting the exhaust and full suspention kit but no report.
does the delcared mods bump the insurance

Claiming ignorance for the mods is not accepted by the insurance companies. just gotta accept it like

shouldnt do no, what i gathered was aslong as this report is completed by the garage your insurance doesnt go up unless it adds considerable BHP.
Like i said when i was trying to explain to the woman about mine she didnt have a clue what iu was talking about and insisted i needed this report before i can do it
They are all dam irish i didnt understand a word she said either LOL
Barry123

soz man,
basically you have to declare the mods regardless of whether you modded it or someone else did.

Hi,
I'm currently insured with Quinn-Direct on a 2000 Saxo Mark. 2 Furio 1.4i 8v, and my insurance is Third Party Fire & Theft. (TPF&T) I have a few questions to ask and it would be appreciated if they could be answered.
I bought the car at the beginning of February, and it came with an aftermarket back box, induction kit, ECU Valve and it had been lowered 40mm, all by the previous owner. Since then I've replaced the CD player, all the original speakers, I've added a subwoofer and amplifier in the boot and I've replaced the wheels with some 15" Lenso RS5's, also I've recently added a Viper 5000 Pager2Pager Alarm System.
Now my questions are;
* As I'm TPF&T do I need to declare modifications on my car?
* How much will I be looking to pay extra for the specific modifications?
* Will the fact that I've added an alarm cheapen my insurance?
Thank you for your time, and I will be looking forward to hearing from you.
Dear Mr Brownley
Thank you for your e-mail dated: 02/05/06
I would like to confirm that as long as the vehicle has had an MOT done
since the changes were made, than the modifications are fine. Having an
alarm on the vehicle will not make a difference to your premium.
If there are any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.
Regards
Zoe

yeh i know that mate what i ment was.
They ask for a report when they fit the mods. well the mods were fitted before i took ownership of the car. I have repict for the fitment but how am i ment to get a report for something that was done before
DarylVTR
25th July 2006, 23:11
he knows that he meant if he needs this report how can he if he bought it like it :p
which is a very valid point, i did email them once and they said i didnt need to claim mods but i dunno wheather to believe that or not....
Danny has got same sort of email as i did ................. they arnt bothered about them as long as they are safe and pass MOT which obviously proves its road worthy! its a really good way of doing it , basically do wotever you want to it mate if they say you dont have to claim mods keep the e-mail they sent saying or, ask for it in writing.

well i just got the doc's
It says this on my certificate...
the policyolder, if they have a full EU licence, may also drive, with the permission of the owner, any private motor car subject to the terms and condidtions of the policy.
To me that means i can because in the booklet, also page 2 of this thread it states if its on the certificate. which it is.
Luke
