Cheers, 160 is a very good weight for your body weight.

You weigh what I do when i compete and not many lads reach 150 let alone 160.. 180/180 seems low when you look at lads who compete but I bet not many get near your lifts in your gym as they are infact very good lifts.

Most guys you see aspire to a 180 Deadlift and a 100kh squat lol..

yeah i think i favor the bench to much compare to squat and dead lift which i know i shouldn't, sounds silly when i say im only squatting and dead lifting 20 more kg than my bench haha i fell over with 160kg on my back while squatting and its kinda scared me lol, im trying to upload the video but it was took off my friends phone and he tagged me in it on facebook and i don't know how i could get it on here.

Do you not have spotters when you lift?

You need to save the video then upload it to YouTube or get your friend to upload it.

this bit got me? do they really? i can dead 220 now, at 91kg and squat probs around 180 now, but my bench is total shite, be lucky to get near 120 these days.

No spotter on the deadlift... why would anyone need a spotter for daedlift?

Viper

Ahh right, I thought I remembered an old guy being behind him in all of them.

I know it's not one you would necessarily need one for but if it was a coach then he would be there for each exercise.

it helps for that extra push, its always better to have a help on the last lift, than to fail on it. if we're in gym in 3's 2 folks always take an end on the big lifts.

MiniGibbo
27th February 2012, 17:26
The form is good on deadlift until i get it just above my knees where it sticks and i have to rench it up my leg.

That would be borderline a fail at a comp as its not "clean", if you listen i even say "that wasnt clean" on the video..

The guy spotting me on bench and seen in the deadlift video is a training partner, i train with a few guys..

The guy spotting me on squat is an ex world champion and 80 years old still pulling 190kg on the dead.

@Scotish, your strong mate very strong. Average joe on the street would dream of the lifts i mentioned.

I dunno what you mean by average joe though? surely some1 thinking about deadlifts would be in training? I'm probably the shittest out of the 6 or 7 boys a train with, 4 juice, 3 natural. my bench is deffo the lowest, and the juicers all dead more than me, and my squat is prob worst from everyone.. but they are all 98kg min, and deffo not as fat as me.

we have a world champ guy in our gym who's 70 odd, bill, bench's 175 or 180 still, right strong old cunt, can hardly walk but throws the bar about like theres no tomorow.

think i might come to glasgow when yer competing when im home, just for a nosey at it all, cos my form is probably pish as well.

By average joes i mean what we call "blurs" the guys you see who go regularly but never get stronger or put on size,

When ever they ask for advice they generally seem to dream of a 180kg Deadlift and treble figure bench..

Yeah come along lad it's a national level comp so will be a good show!

Oh right I always aim to do eight....unless I'm squatting big kg's then I'll drop to 5 on my last set.

So youre max is just 1 rep at the heaviest possible weight?is that not a bit pointless unless competing? I'm not being funny btw just asking.

Well no, it's generally an accepted way of overloading and increasing strength, which is good. Gibbo competes in powerlifting though... You seem to be training to increase muscle mass.

Manu
28th February 2012, 11:36
If I may give some advice, you should wear knees straps when deadlifting that much. High risk of popping your ligaments regardless of how much your muscles can pull tbh.

Im trying to train for strength but lower reps does nothing for me.I don't get that "pumped" feeling like I do with higher (8-10) reps...

Am going to give the 1 rep max a shot tho.reckon I could hit 140kg deadlift n my squat should be good to.

With regards to bench iv been using chains for the last 6 months does anyone else use these?I find them fucking awesome for inner pecs especially with a good 20kg chain

Only thing a chain will do is increase the weight the higher you push... Shouldn't affect where it hits the muscle.

You probably wont feel a pump, but the pump is only the blood filling with muscle I think. Strength is all to do with making the connection between mind and muscle stronger. If you're constantly going heavier, then that is what will make you stronger, going beyond your capability.

Body building gives you a pump but pumps are useless, powerlifting gives a deep ache for the next day or two showing muscle brake down which in turn means growth.. If you want size powerlift then tone with bodybuilding.

1 rep maxes are powerlifting, I never go above 4 on working weights.

Knee straps on deadlifts arent raw, I compete raw.

Hmm, think you should have driven through the heels more. Your legs seem to straighten up before the weight is off the ground, and then you seem to pull up with mostly the back. I reckon if you'd have used your legs to start the lift, you'd have got that.

MiniGibbo
1st March 2012, 22:18
You have to lock out quicker than a strongman lift to guarantee not getting stuck causing you to rench..

For a gym lift that's fine. I'll have 250 clean for nationals so it's all good.

I competed in the British drug free national powerlifting championships in Glasgow this weekend, I weighed in at 94kg and my lifts where

Squat, 220,225,230
Paused bench, 150,160 failed 166
Deadlift, 240,245,250

I locked out the 166 bench but was failed on my form, shame as it would of been a new British record :(

However my total of 640kg earned me second place, only beat by the 2011 world champion.. Not bad for my first year competiting ehh :)

Its safe to say in over the moon with how it went :y:

Is the record really that low weight? I was pushing 110kg @ 67kg when i was training and thought i was doing rubbish! Sure iv got a pic somewhere, was either a pic of a 200kg deadlift or my bench.

In powerlifting you have to pause bench, which if you dont know is down to your chest hold until they say (usally 2 seconds) and press.. i know the best 68kg lifter in the country and he reckons pausing takes nearly 20kg off his lift.

Suited hes benched 155kg.

Pausing at the bottom on chest is how i benched anyway, maybe for 1second ish though(not through choice, thats just how i lifted). But i can see what you were saying about holding out at the bottom possibly losing kg's able to push.
I would have smashed 115kg by now if i had stayed at the weight i was but stopped training 2yrs ago :(. My training partner at the time has progressed loads since. He's been training with Mark Felix for a couple of years now and think hes going for Britains strongest this year(maybe next im unsure).

My lifts,

No IPF isn't drug tested, I compete in GBPF and bdfpa (wdfpa for worlds)

I'm no.2 in Britain for bdfpa and south west champion for GBPF.

One of the local coaches who organises all south counties comps is trying to get me to compete in the IPF as it is regarded as the "top powerlifting group" but IMO what's the point when it won't be on a level playing field and I refuse to use juice.

Probably because you would receive greater recognition, prize money and sponsors etc with the IPF as it's the top.
Just like in bodybuilding, no one has a clue who the world natural bodybuilding champion(s) is/were. Yet most gym goers have heard of the Olympia winners e.g. Coleman, Cutler, Yates etc.

It's just cunts law, natural trainers get less appreciation than users. Can't take anything away from the users at the top of their game though, they are still top athletes. Maybe your opinion will change as you get older
