Okay so i'm planning on getting some practice in on my Saxo when I can get some insurance for it, however it doesn't have power steering, now I'm just wondering.. Does this make it harder to drive?
Thanks
!

it does when youre driving slowly/trying to park etc

EDIT: for my lessons I drive a mini cooper and it has power steering, is it a case of getting used to how the steering works on the Saxo?

Not hard at all, just means you'll have to put more effort in turning the wheel when parking.

It's not a big deal, don't worry or over think about it.
It's just the same but the steering is a lot lighter.

every car feels different to drive. You'll get used to soon enough and it'll just feel normal.

my powersteering high pressure pipe split once i had to disconnect the powersteering but still left the powersteering hydraulic arms on the steering rack so it was super hard to drive felt pretty hench after a week especially having to parrallell park 4 times a day lol

broken power steering is so much harder than standard no powersteering. Id rather walk than drive my car with broken powersteering again lol

I'd rather have a car with power steering, just makes life a little easier haha, if it's broken or faulty it should be repaired anyway right? :P

Is there anyway to pay someone to fit power steering to a car by any chance? I'm kinda dubious about taking forever to park and stuff.

I've not had PAS on my car for a couple months now... I kinda miss it, but there's not a massive difference once you're actually moving lol.

My old Saxo didn't have it, you soon get used to it. Can't really tell the difference after about 5mph anyway.

I actually prefer no power steering tbh. My old car had no power steering, and i had a 300mm steering wheel on it aswell! So it seemed really hard to steer but i got used to it, and now my new car has power steering i cant really get used to it lol

+1
On my old White GTi, fuck me I felt like the Hulk after driving to work. It felt so good to drive at high speed that I left the PAS fucked on it.
I actually prefer no power steering tbh.
Same as, its awesome! I miss having a fucked PAS pump :n: lol.. Hated it when it use to kick back in after a bump on a roundabout when your turning, sometimes ending up mounting the roundabout lol then kick back out when turning back the other way.
To the OP. I'd say get a car without PAS!!!
Feel the road a lot more, better to drive, and teaches you how to handle a car better imo.
Fuck no power steering i could never go back to that, main reason i got rid of the 1.1. You lot will be saying get rid of the electric window's next :homme:

Ideally i'd have an electric window passenger side, and a windy window drivers side. It so much quicker winding it down, and i can do it with the ignition off.
But when someone pulls up on the left of me for a chat, its less embaressing to have an electric window instead of leaning over and winding it down ha.

Oh right, well my instructor said to me today as long as the car is rolling then there will be no problem steering, just parking will be a pain but you will get used to it.
I have a Saxo (1999 eastcoast I think) :P 1.1

My car has to be the most basic thing ever, none of that fancy power steering, abs or electric powered windows, ):
On the plus side it has a yellow gear changer :'):bump:

My Peugeot didn't have power steering and that was my excuse for my bad parking.. but my Saxo has power steering, so now I have no excuse  haha
Getting blocked in was hard work to get out of with no power steering :n:

It really doesn't make much of a difference. It's much harder having a power steering pump failure and driving with power steering but no pump. The only time you'll notice is when you're doing low speed maneuvers.

i loved my saxo with no powersteering, its light as foooook, my mate drove it and were like are you sure it has no power steering? it's nearly as light as my car (Corsa C 06 Plate) lol..
i'm looking to get either a VTR/S or a 106 GTi this summer i just wish they didn't have power steering as my old saxo was soooo fun to drive...
Seriously don't worry about it, its not even very hard to park and i wasn't someone with the henchest arms anyway, it feels like a go-kart to drive with no power steering :)
oh how i miss my 1.1 :(

Has anybody actually fitted power steering to a Saxo that didn't have it originally?
Bought a 96 SX 1.4 which I thought had it until I got it. Bought it for trials events where everything is low speed and tight turns between marker posts. To make matters worse tyres are generally 14 PSi.
Low speed, low tyre pressure, tight turns !!
You can see why I'm asking :panic:

I'm guessing you could.. But you'd have to have the knowledge to know how to install it yourself, or fork out a big lump of cash on getting someone fitting it. I don't even know if it is possible to be honest. :drink:

You shouldn't dry steer anyway as my instructor says, as it can damage tyres and steering :y:

Competing with the car on trials events and have to steer the car at v.low speed with 14psi tyres.

People drove for years without power steering! Only modern cars have it. Older 205s never had it. Saxos are light too. Try a fiesta diesel 1.8 with no ps. Just fit an ax rack, its the hydraulics with no assistance that makes it heavy.
