View Full Version : Dom's Peugeot 106 Rallye Progress!
The Start of something good!
Hello Saxperience!
I'm back again with another 106, third time lucky eh ;)
Well, some of you may recognise it as Chris's off here. I have to say I am very impressed with the way it drives, the way it pulls through the gears and my god that exhaust tone! Few minor dings here and there, but nothing to even batter an eyelid at when opening the throttle up :y:
Apologies with the pictures, they are off a crappy blackberry.

Very nice car Dom, looks the tits in real life tbh.
I was thoroughly impressed with the amount of power it has. It feels like it just doesn't want to be driven slowly. It pulls like a train and the handling is absolutely fucking fantastic. It sounds the part too. :y:
See that WAD of cash... was it 3k?
Indeed somewhere around that figure, was lovely to hold WAD.
Is this actually a progress thread? There's nothing left to do! It looks lovely.
There's a lot of bodywork to do, noticed a few bits today i'd like to change a little, may as well get it resprayed :homme:
Not yellow enough.

Indeed, lets hit the back lanes.
Nice rallye, needs the steelies back..
Never ever ever put such a ludicrous suggestion on this car ever again, are you serious? Steelies are wank :A: haha

Bodies yes, steelies no.
Personal preference, but the car is a hell of a lot of fun. Bit loud, but worth it!

Third person that's said that now :n: Nobody like alloys? Was going to smash on the Ultraleggera's.. Hmm

S1 rallyes, but they're rare as rocking horse shit!
Dom saw this in the FS section and could only wish I had the money for it! Such a nice motor! I wish you all the best of luck with this one :y:
General Check Over..
Not that bad..
Had the Rallye over the pit this afternoon to check the underside for general rust and other bits and bobs. Got to say, I'm quite impressed! A bit of welding needs to be done here and there, Front Pan's and Rear arch, but its only what I knew was there when I bought it, and Chris was completely honest with me when selling it :y:
Oh well, no trouble. First plan is then, getting the welder out and sorting the underside and Arch. The rest of the work on the car was up to a top standard, very impressed with the work previously gone into it!
Picture of today's small amount of events;
http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx294/Domleydon/utf-8BSU1HMDAzMjctMjAxMjAzMDQtMTYyNS5qcGc.jpg
As for plans for the car, nothing. Literally, taking every day as it comes and seeing what I feel like at the time, then the mods start. Very impressed after the first few days, engine runs sweet and the fuel economy is stupidly good, almost as good as my friends 1.1!

There are quite a few Rallye's in our region now, once mines on the road we'll have to arrange a meet!
Loving the new car (though Rallye's should have steels, I shall be going out of my way to keep the steelies on mine lol)
If you decide to fit bodies and need help, advise, or them fitting let us know xxx

They seem to be more popular than GTi's now! 8v ftw eh ;)
I'd really have to sit in a dark room for hours and hours to even slightly be convinced to put on steelies on this, I don't think I can, I want my Ultraleggera's on it, very unsure though
One day soon about the last bit :) I'm spending money on tools and the minor bits before skipping the small bits and splashing out the cash on the big bits. Plus an insurance payout. :wall: lol
Was it you that flashed me ealier between willington and the bypass roundabout?
I didn't flash? I get what you mean though, my suspensions that solid that you ain't the only one who thinks I flash, a guy in a Pink 106 a few cars ahead of you looked at me weird as well haha.. Wondered why I kept getting looks.
Yours the Silver VT* then?

Depends who's asking if its an 8v ;) LOL Yeah its got a lovely 16v.
I will do, I have got a few little bits I need to ask you guys, but at this point in time a respray isn't something I could really shell out on, have to wait and see what insurance brings along.
Lol yeah mines the silver vtr

Smallish update
Slimline Rad Installed..
Had the Rad laying around from the Yellow GTi, took a look at the Rallye's and thought I may as well change it over. So today I cracked on and removed the old one and put the Slimline one in, and bled the cooling system. Pretty sweet tbh, no major changes today :)

Pointless Weekend Update
Really is pointless.
Trying to update this blog every weekend I can, well this week nothing has been done. I did do a test on what the MPG its doing though, and was pretty impressed at 354+ motorway miles before I was playing chicken with the red light. Pretty good sitting at 70mph.
At the moment i'm struggling to get around a Alternator problem, its nothing major at all, and I really couldn't give a toss about it. Spacing issues. :homme:
Plans for the next week, well, clean it for a start. It's got dirty, done nearly 2k miles since I got it, and it hasn't met a hose pipe, yet! Also spray and fit the fuse box cover. Oh the joys. :n: Suppose that's what happens when I buy a nearly done project, everything from here gets expensive. Forged, Bodied Engine saving fund commenced as of Thursday.

Welding the Shell..
Actually done right this time..
Its the weekend, meaning more bits and pieces were done on the car. This weekend was the welding of the rear arches, rusted a bit worse than quite a few people expected. Pokey pokey with a screwdriver during the week meant that it needed doing, silicone sealant repairs wasn't adequate enough for me.
Oh hai, where the fuck did you appear from?

White S2 rallyes look awesome. I tried for ages to find a nice 106 GTi in white with no luck.
If you have a lockup/garage, get it up in the air and cup-brush the underseal off each wheelwell, youll probably find scary bits of rust starting underneath at certain points. Clean it all off, give it a good basecoat and then some thing decent like wurth underseal.
w.r.t. the alternator problem, get a VTR alternator bracket and belt, and mount that in the block. It'll sit the alt lower down well away from the manifold so eliminating any potential heat issues, and it makes changing belts and tensioning 10x easier.

Angry noises!
If you buy a modified car you buy someone elses modifications. First thing I'd do is give everything a good check over to make sure I was happy with it, why trust other peoples work? I make mistakes, I expect others do!

How fucking dare you. You absolute twat.
That ARB was not a bodge at all. The Previous owner of the beam must have been having major issues, when it was put on Karl's car, it knocked all the time due to that ARB end plate being smashed on by a cunt.
The Arb was removed, end plates checked over and the ARB was almost fubar. Hence the reason for the fucked beam suspicion I was talking about, when we put it back together it went on too easily, due to the splines on one side of the ARB having severe spline damage.
The repair worked, the beam stopped knocking over every small bump in the road. No more was said about it after that. You've bought the car, its your problem, not Adam's, mine nor Karl's problem. Do not ever come spouting your fucking mouth on the internet.
How can you even say that we fucked that beam? and we don't know what we are doing? I've been working on these cars for 2-3 years myself, beams included, I'd say I've done 6-7 beams without any trouble at all. This is the only one I had a suspicion about.
See you at FCS. Bellend.
Ps. Don't poke the rear arches.

Btw this car has a new progress blog on boners by the new owner - Linky (http://www.106owners.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?227076-Owen-s-Bianca-Rallye)
Also, my beam hasn't fallen off yet. Nor has it exploded or disintegrated.
And as far as I know neither has the other beam Dom & I did together. They're pretty simple things, bless them. If anything's gone wrong it's likely a mechanical fault that's been there the whole time, especially if the beam was just transplanted from one car to another. Beams don't just die overnight.
As an aside, I dare you to try and find a mint beam. These cars are all between ten and twenty years old now, even at a conservative rate of miles none of them are as good as they were from the factory. Stirring up a hate-train across at least three threads about a common fault that you were already aware of says more about your own attempt to ride your luck instead of actually doing something about the problem.

Spamuel, please get over yourself, dry your eyes and pick your bottom lip up. Its a rear beam, not like you've found Dom and Karl tag-teaming your mum is it? It's easily fixed, if you found a naffed beam on a £5k car i'd understand but in all honesty, I've paid as much for breakers in the past.

Tbh you got the car for a significant amount less then it could be split for in parts
Even if the car had no floor pan or the axle fell off
Youd still make a tidy profit on what was left
Well this thread turned bad. Oh well.
I will have the last laugh.

Like I'm bothered lol, this car was never my project but Chris's. If this was branded on the Yellow GTi's page then yeah I'd have no choice to Hayemaker the cunt. No matter how many boyfriends he brings to FCS I'd still like to have a word.
