For anyone who has fitted these, is it just basically a cold air feed to the brakes or is it more complex than that?

basic as that I would have thought, thats also how they look...what diff they are to just having no fogs I don't know

I'd imagine having ducting would be better than nothing as you're directing the air.

Baz

unless your doing track days and shit I doubt its worth doing

Yeah, you wouldn't be doing enough hard braking to warrant needing them and i'd find front fogs more useful. I need a better set of brakes too before it's worth doing.

agreed even then, unless your a serious track goer it aint worth it, didn't notice any brake fade in my 2 track days but then again in a 1.4 lol

I was just thinking about it as something really easy to do and it can't hurt the car unless it fell off. It must be as easy as stripping weight for a track day.

tbf its actually more worth doing on standard shit brakes, if you get bigger brakes then they are going to be more powerful, have a higher heat capacity therefore wouldn't need cooling as much as the standard brakes which are likely to over heat and suffer from brake fade sooner

however yes i wouldnt bother doing it however i have them on my bmw as standard and must admit they are cool as f**k :afro:

Fair enough then. May have to go out and get some cheap ducting. I need to have my bumper off soon for a respray so it'd be the perfect time to do it.

leave your fogs in.

I'd rather have capable pads / disks / fluid that I know is hard to overheat rather than shit pads / disks /fluid that I try to keep cool, and still risk overheating.

I've had a look at the bumper and there is space to cut a hole in it to do both.

I meant in relation to the post about doing it on standard brakes.

sure the standard brakes are crap and need cooling, but it's better to have an adequate brake set up rather than trying to make crap brakes good.

Oh yeah i know that. I plan on doing a lot of track days and once i get some spare cash brakes are going to be the first upgrade, well after i get some bigger alloys to get the brakes in.

You've got VTR wheels I assume? you can fit 266mm brakes behind them.

Yep, still got them. I want some 283s all round so i need a bigger set of alloys to fit them in. I've read the FAQ section on brakes :D

283's all round?

Sounds like you've not read much...

+1 lol

You could go 283 all round, if you found a way of getting a handbrake on the caliper!

I said i want. Never meant i could :p

Why would you want it though? the rear brakes do barely anything.

I've never known anyone to run more than standard on a track car, even with close to 200bhp.

even with the front's 266's will be adequate with good pads and fluid on track, 283 is just added weight unless you're rocking 4pots

what would you put on the back of 283s then?

Standard brakes, it's a tried a tested method used by loads of people.

obviously with adequate pads and discs, Toad ran just mintex1144's on the rear in standard calipers, his car was quick too, 184bhp in a 750kg shell.

That'll save me some money then. I'm still going to need bigger alloy though.

i wasnt actually suggesting he does it btw lol i was just saying hyperthetically standard brakes would benefit more than bigger brakes

Why do you need bigger wheels with the current brake set up?

If you're doing regular track days, I'd keep the 14's and save money on tyres...

The 283s don't fit behind 14"
