Is there anything i should look out for on the C2?
The one i'm looking at is a 2007 C2 Code.
It's been lowered, has a john ashley exhaust. That's pretty much all i know about it.

Should i be looking outr for anything in paticular, any common faults when i take a look at it?

Cheers.

do it, just be aware of c2 electrical problems, particularly with the bsi unit which leads to £££££. coil springs on front are prone to snapping, electric power steering can play up,usually the rack drive motor itself. seat frames are a bit flimsy and thats about it apart from usual 16 valve engine problems that the vts used to suffer from.

^^ with that i'd stick with the saxo or get something better tbh...

I have £3500 to unload. Any suggestions? I want something as fun as the saxo.
The only reason i'm buying another car is when i just had the Cam belt done on the saxo, the mechanic who i trus noticed a shit ton of rust on the chassis at the front under the arch lining.
He checked the other side and it was the same. I love the car but it's getting too much now. I need to cut my losses.

I really like the C2 and i found a code in my price range. What is the bsi unit Mandy? and how many ££££ exactly?
And i did hear about the electric power steering problem somewhere.

Isn't the GT less power than the VTS/Code?

bsi is the unit that basically controls everything electrical on the car inc immobiliser, windows, indicators, wipers, the lot! acts in place of relays etc and when it plays up, the only option is a brand new one, don't be fooled by bum amateur mechanics who have heard that a used one can be re-programmed to the car, it can't.

Okey doke. Good advice. I guess there is still an ECU too though right?

ecu for power steering, ecu for engine, then the bsi itself, ecu for the sensodrive on vtrs, then ecu for heating and ventalation inside the dash

Does the lowering have an effct on the ESP?

But doesn't this look sexy too? Apart from the blue wheels, but i would get those painted.

Although esp stands for electronic stabilising program you would have thought it would be in conjunction with the suspension (like an electric suspension). Although on some cars they have a gyroscope built in when taking a corner too fast the gyroscope 'feels' something like one rear wheel stepping out or slipping it applies the brakes. What it actually does it something similar to traction control and abs and applies braking/limited power to a certain wheel. Its clever stuff and can stop most accidents caused by driving to quickly around a corner. It can limit power on any individual wheel which a driver could never do.

Never knew c2's came with esp thought it would just be the usual traction control which is not as good. Clever stuff could have saved many lives without the owner knowing. According to Mercedes who i think invented it, if all cars have it 1 in 3 crash wouldn't have happened.

Yes i did read up on this a few weeks back..

If you want something as fun as a Saxo, a C2 is a no go!
Its a big car, with big seats and the driving position similar to a bus.
HUGE electricly powerd steering with no road feedback at all. Will not be a nippy as a Saxo vtr, plus the Code is the heavyest of the range - heated seats and more dials/switches.

Looks nice, is comfy but thats the price to pay for slow, sluggish and heavy.

yep, just have to bin off every piece of trim, including the dash, fit a complete saxo loom into it and run saxo vts engine and loom and you're getting somewhere in the fun stakes. Either that or fit a v6 but forget about going round corners lol. Whatever you do, avoid any c2 with a tiptronic gearbox, i've scrapped quite a few now with terminal electrical issues.

Tbh the Code is what made me buy my c2 furio.
Brothers mate had one, I thought it looked the biz but was way out of my price range.
Settling for the furio just made me want a saxo so badly again.
I want the fun, throw about, cable throttle. The c2 is electric everything and takes the fun out of driving IMO.
But i'm not saying its a shit car at all. The code looks sick, the seats are ill, comfy, insurance is amazing for what it is aswell.

Would recommend it! I used to have a mk1 vtr, then went to a mk2, better in every way especially on fuel economy. Not sure what the difference is between mk1 and 2 vts on fuel. Just look out for an 03 low milage mk2 with FSH and you should be fine.

Although after 2 years of saxo ownership I do fancy something with a few more gadgets/better build quality.

You sure a clio 172 isn't an option? Only £100 between my premium on a vts and a 172. Cheaper insurance on a 172 CUP than a standard 172 also, worth a look into.

Surely on that kinda budget you could afford an EP3 / 1*2?

that will fufill the needs for fun, and they're economical too.

sure, they're a little more to insure, but theres a lot more car to be gained for that extra cost [especially with the EP3], making it good value for money (IMO of course)
