Anyone had experience with Autoglass before?

I cracked my windscreen today putting my mirror back on (There was already a small crack there, it was just waiting to become alot bigger).

Rung up good ol' Gavin for a quote...£450 for a windscreen replacement done at my home! (£350 if I go to a local branch).

I pretty much hung up on them there and then, absolutely ridiculous!

Anyhow, after abit of browsing I found a local company that are doing it tomorrow for just over £100.

Why are Autoglass so expensive?
And how do they still get business if local companies like this are much cheaper?

Because they are a big national company with a name and reputation. They can charge what they want. Plus every insurance company out there use them so they are not going to charge an insurance company £100 when they can make £350 out of it. They are mostly used when going through insurance so take the mark up. They are giving you a price which the insurance would pay not the customer.

They get most of their business via Insurance companies.

Be careful with cheap quotes and small companies

A place I know of would get 2nd hand glass from the scrap yard and fit

Yeh its insane, and thats for a saxo windscreen! I imagine it would be a fair bit more for something newer and better. Although they probably all have windscreen cover.
