My missuses astra is ticking over (starter motor) but not catching and firing up ,, what to check for people ??

i think there is a solenoid that pushes it out onto the flywheel thats probably stuck, thats if they work the same as saxo ones

all starter motors have this.
but it sounds like the starter motor is engaging and spinning the engine correct?
normally the problem can be related to the crank/cam sensors. is there an engine light on?
is it petrol or diesel? does it eventually fire or will it just spin over till battery goes flat.
need more info mate.

i had this on the mother in laws astra mk1 and it turned out to be a snapped camshaft. dont know how but it did. but thats the worst case could be cam or crank sensor.

put in gear then turn key, if starts to turn over quickly dip clutch, worked for me anyway lol

do you mean the engine is turning but not starting or do you mean the starter is making noise but not turning the engine?

i had a cam shaft snap on my old frontirer costly .
