View Full Version : Engine Flat Spot

I've been noticing lately that if I'm in 5th gear at about 50mph then put my foot down it'll gradually gain then suddenly there will be no acceleration at all, no power. It will hold its speed but it feels completely flat. Then it will suddenly kick back in and gain all the way to 100 or whatever.
It can happen in other gears too but most noticeable in fifth.
It has a full magnex exhaust system, brand new k&n air filter enclosed, new spark plugs, new oil and oil filter, clean as holiday sea water coolant and it runs like a dream other than these random flat spots ;/
Cheers.

I'll try cleaning the throttle body out and the map sensor. It that doesn't work I'll try a different coil pack.
It's got no cat and a new lambda sensor. It'll end up being a brand new car at this rate haha

Map sensor ordered!
Something's feels choppy when I press the peddle like it stutters or something and then if I push the clutch down coming up to a junction the engine will shut off :/

I had the same with my mk1 vtr, changed the plugs thinking it would help, then went to leeds festival and basically used half a tank of fuel getting off the car park, turned out to be shitty HT leads, worth looking into at least.
(after reading the bit about cutting out) my xsara had been doing that for the past few months until it stopped running al together, ended up being a blocked filter and a broken fuel pump.

See how a new map sensor and coil pack go and then will look into the fuel pump and filters. Everything's been changed very recently service wise and the economy isn't bad at all. If very rarely cuts out mind and hasn't done it for a few days now after I cleaned the icv out.
One new fix one new problem haha

Put the new map sensor in and it's made things worse -_- Really jumpy on acceleration and idle is all over. Why is this happening D:

Yeah haha. Car doesn't run if it's not plugged in. New coil pack on the way... If this doesn't help then i might just scrap it and buy a push bike :P
