Hi, i have just been to view a 2002 Saxo VTR, all seems to be well, after a long run, good temp, no warning lights coming on good acceleration, all in all a good little car, with full history, including timing belt replacement [ recent ]
2 former owners, stainless steel back box with twin exhausts, not my taste really, but can always change, one item i did notice was a pronounced humming/buzzing/whinning noise, which is apparent with the engine running, and gets worse when driving, my guess is the power steering pump, is this a sound of impending pump failure, or is at a common noise, not to be bothered about ? all replies gratefully received.....

Does sound like the dreaded pas on its last legs mate, not too difficult to replace or expensive either.

It's an electric pump, could just be normal running noises.

But as said, the pumps are cheap if it comes to it.

saxo power steering pumps tend to make whiny noises anyway, mine frequently does it and has done for ages and im constantly reading about people with similar noises from power steering pumps. As said, even if it does fail its not an expensive job
