Hi guys. Let me take you on a journey... it sucked!

4-5 Months ago i decided to start driving. At the time i had NO idea what i was getting myself into in terms of insurance. But being young i didn't particularly care so much :wall:

So, with driving comes insurance, (as you all know) and this covers what i did to lower my £5067 premium!

Tips:
1# - LOOK EVERYWHERE, CALL EVERYONE!
This is vital, simply because on the phone sometimes you can get a better quote for explaining your car in a bit more detail.

2# - THINK ABOUT YOUR JOB TITLE
I work for Apple, and this came to the idea of... "what is my job title?" so i tweeked it to be LEGIT but it managed to bring my quote down -£1000. Simply for changing from "Sales Assistant" to "Computer Salesman" (Stupid i know)

3# - ADD OTHER DRIVERS!
This is such a simple way to bring your premium down massively. This also comes under the topic of FRONTING. Now... idiots do this because they can't pay the premiums. For those who don't know what fronting is, its basically like saying "My Dad is the Main driver of this car" - When you know he's not even going to get behind the wheel what so ever... but you do this cause he's 80 something and has 20 years NCB. Which simply brings me on the the next tip...

4# - DON'T LIE.
If you lie, it will come and bite you on the ass when you have a collision. Simple. Don't do it.

5# - DON'T MOD
Now, this will simply cause controversy... cause i know half of you will say "It's finnnne, do it!". The people that will say that will have some sort of NCB. Yeah, fine, MOD... but only when you have that NCB!

So, simple things to go by. What many people don't realise is that sites such as - Comparethemarket.com and Gocompare.com push your premium higher to get a commission so they own money and can afford to have that fat prick singing 'Go compaaaare, Go comaaappreee' on the TV for years to come. BUT, not all sites are like that. And where i conclude is by saying i am now insured to drive. I did this by putting my details in CONFUSED.COM. Them guys don't claim back commission at all... and managed to find a quote for £2000. 12 months, 2 months Free.

One myth to come to terms with is that not all TPF&T insurance quotes are cheaper. They can be more!

Please contact me if you have any questions... not that i'm an expert. But from a Young Driver who is now happy with their insurance deal, and who has quite clearly been to every single option.

Much love

Max

Your giving advice on insurance, but your paying £2000 for a 1.1 Desire??

It was going to cost me more to be put as a named driver than main driver, with Admiral. Was about double the price of being a main driver. Telling the truth will see you better off in the end of the day.

You've not grasped what fronting is from that description mate.

By having the owner (young driver) as the main driver, and adding other drivers (their parents) that isn't fronting.

Can't beleive kids are paying 2k plus. 5 years ago when I was 17, my insurance on a 1.1 was under 1k!

it's crazy to see how much some people are paying for their insurance.

i'm 18 with a citroen saxo 1.1 east coast and paying £743 a year on a tracker.

The tracker really doesnt bother me either tbh :)

5 years ago, was exactly that, 5 years.

insurance in that time has gone up at such a ridiculous amount

something interesting i found from 07-08

July 07 June 08 Change

All motorists £486.13 £514.36 +5.81%

17-24 £1,219.47 £1,249.56 +2.47%

17-39 £602.43 £632.73 +5.03%

40-49 £378.02 £401.93 +6.33%

50 and over* £319.06 £347.45 +8.90%

65 and over £334.65 £368.09 +9.99%

* This includes all those 50 and over and not just those between 50 and 64

and im sure that this trend has continued in the same way and so would probably make £2000 similar to what you payed all those years back !!!
