View Full Version : forward facing speed camera :(

flashed on the 11/3 doing 42 in a 30, the camera is just around the corner from my house, and not one person goes through at 30, i was convinced they didn't work and have been through them at similar speeds frequently.
do cameras only work sometimes?
as i was behind a car earlier who went through it about 40-45, (the rate he accelerated away from me leads me to believe this, he was DEFINATELY going faster than 30) and he didn't get flashed...
and also, the camera flashed from the front, and after some reading up, it's supposed to be an infra red light invisible to the eye, now either i have super sight, or this camera was definitely fucking blinding, it was almost 1am too so was extremely bright.

mysterious offender
should i bite the bullet and sign the NIP or appeal on the basis that the camera should not have flashed as it did?

I know that here in Cheshire, they only use so many at a time.
They tend to swap them over every 3 weeks, from what I've seen.
The average speed camera's over the Cat and Fiddle are rarely switched on aswell, they've been broken since they put them in. I've been over there, and havent had a ticket through yet..
Edit: Picture looks cool though, I want one.

lol at your pic ^
facebook profile picture that :y:
them forward facing ones are called truvelos and apparently arent supposed to flash, as to not dazzle oncoming driver. However ive seen one flash before as i was about 30 meters away from it travelling towards it, and it was fucking blinding lol big purple flash! i didnt get anything through as i was too far away, and i werent speeding but it just randomly went off :S
Depending on what area youre in alot of cameras dont actually work and have no film. Im only guessing to cut costs?? they must have just recently switched your camera on and you've been unlucky enough to get caught. I bet there will be alot more surprised people getting caught at the same camera tbh

the camera's over the cat and fiddle , only half of them work. (the bottom half) as they have the power boxes next to them.
just as well, because the top half of that road is the most fun lol

both £60 and 3 points. there is a slip attatched saying if i nominate the driver ASAP i could qualify for a speed awareness course.
not so bothered about the fine, but i was quite happy to say i had a clean license !!

I don't understand, what are you trying to appeal against, you got caught doing over the speed limit when you knew there was a speed camera there. My days.

a camera that rarely works, and also one that blinded me, looking around it seems i have a case for appeal based on that fact alone.
i most likely wont, but it's still a cool thread kay.

you have no case. You were caught speeding plain and simple. Print off the pic and get it framed and put it on your mantlepiece

So you knew the camera was there and you know it's a 30mph zone but still chose to do 42mph through it?
You Sir, are an idiot.

Did the camera flash make you go 12 mph over the speed light as well as 'blind' you.
Take the course, pay the fine and stop being a dildo.

are you for real?
pitch fucking black and then BANG you know when a bright light is flashed in your face, you are temporarily blinded, therefore the light "blinded me"
i was not looking for sympathy whatsoever, the picture is hilarious and the whole scenario is a bit of a joke considering that the cameras genuinely work <1% of the time.
the whole point of this thread was just to ask whether or not anyone had been in a similar situation before and what they did about it.

Yes, yes I am.
It's not pitch fucking black because your car has something called.....headlights.
Are you for real?
You have so few legs to stand on that you are producing a snail trail whilst dragging your body across the carpet.

So your complaining about going through a speed camera you know is there at more than the speed limit?
Clearly and idiot! Even if you "knew" it didn't work why risk it incase it suddenly started working. So stupid.

jesus christ, you really are completely daft!!
the lights are not facing me are they now sherlock, my eyes are still adjusted for the light conditions, when this suddenly changes, and believe me its a fucking BRIGHT flash especially in the face, that i could not see, so yes it certainly slowed me down.
your arguing over nothing at all, you were not there nor driving at the time, so cannot tell me what happened once that camera had flashed in my face.
fucking christ !!

With the expected outcome being: "no problem Sonny, looks like you're right, we'll let you off and take the camera down, thanks for letting us know"

Im trying to work out what I can say to make you more angry but I am off out soon so will have to leave it to everyone else :(
I think you should refuse the pentaly and go to court, do let me know where abouts as I would LOVE to come and watch your defence! :)
Judge - 'So why do you think you should not receive a penalty'?
You - 'The speed camera blinded me' (in a fucktard simple voice)
Judge - 'Thanks for that, however you were speeding before the flash therefore it has no bearing on the speed you were doing so get a grip, grow up, take responsibility for your actions and get the fuck out of my courtroom'

I'm sick of saying this,
TRUVELO'S DO FLASH!!!!!
The infra-red thing is fucking bollocks, someone on a Internet forum once saw the red lens so thought, "oh I know, I'll tell everyone they're infra red" the same way people on Internet forums say 106 Gti's are faster than Saxo vts'.
They flash, you were speeding, sign and take the hit.

They are an infra-red flash. But under certain conditions the naked eye can actually see certain wavelegths of infra-red. Particularly at night, when your eyes have adapted. That's why sometimes the flash from a Truvelo is visible.
And to the OP. I really don't know where to start.
You see all these people speeding through a camera and assume that none of them are getting caught? Are you a complete idiot? The Audi driver you mentioned doing 70 on the wrong side of the road might well not have been caught because the sensors on the Truvelo tend to only span across one lane of the carriageway. So try doing that in the future and let me know how you get on. :y:
And as for being blinded, don't talk shit. Did you have to stop in the middle of the road with your hazards on, frantically trying to seek out your mobile, feeling for the "9" and call the emergency services to close the road, assist you out of your car and into the ambulance where you were rushed to hospital and your retina examined for any long lasting damage?:wall: Dildo.

I would appeal for the lols, if not try and do the course if you can't then just take the points etc.

A Truvelo or a Gatso? I know of two Gatso's in Llansamlet. Only Truvelos I can think of in swansea are around Manselton on Llangyfelach road.
I set Gatso's off going towards them quite regularly. In fact I did it about quarter of an hour ago (Because I am big & cool :drink:)
Even a Gatso's flash isn't blinding when you're driving past in all honestly. But they are bright enough for people to complain to the government that they'd cause 12634262938 accidents a year, hence, head on photos from Gatsos, no matter how conclusive they are, cannot be used to prosecute. :A:

I can't help but think that if you were doing the required speed then the camera wouldn't have gone off and "Blinded" you.
Just sayin.
