Engine misfiring, eating petrol, bad idle, cutting out, blue/white smoke from exhaust, exhaust fumes stink of fuel, petrol/oil swirl in coolant, coolant coming back up out the resevior, spark plugs becoming completely black after brand new ones being put in after driving about 2 miles. I could probably think of more but I'm at my witts end.
It's had new plugs, new coil pack, new map sensor, new oil, new oil filter, new fuel filter, new lambda, cleaned icv, expensive fuel treatment ran through it and it's just getting worse.
Does it sound like hg, piston rings or burned valve?
The hg got changed about 6 months ago also...
Hating life right now haha.
Cheers.

so it's using a lot of oil/water, probably HG, they could go with in 100 miles or 100k.
Could be easier to get a newer, lower mile engine.

get a compression test done mate. might help narrow down your search for the problem

Gunna drop it at the garage for a day Monday and see what they diagnose. If its expensive I'll just drop a vtr into it and save the hassle. How much is labour usually for swapping an engine?

if theres oil swurling in your water its defo your head gasket so its a head off job and replace it i reckon.and you have more than likley cooked you valve stem oil seals too i would change them while your on.

It just looks like a slight petrol mixture of colours on the surface of the coolant, like if you were to see it on a wet road. The coolant is crystal clear other than that :/
Looks like an expensive jobby either way...

As it's been said....
Compression Test
Coolant sniffer test
It's possible there was a small amount of oil residue in the coolant after the HG was done if it's not losing coolant and the oil deposits aren't getting any worse and no water getting into the sump next steps would be...
Run an emissions test on it that'll quickly tell you if it's running rich which will cause a lot of the symptoms you have...
Get injectors flow tested make sure they aren't partially blocked and throwing out a bad spray could also get the fuel pressure checked to make sure there isn't too much pressure there...
Other than that check sensors are all in spec especially ones like the coolant temperate sensor only thing after that could possibly be either an ECU or wiring fault :geek:

exactly the reason why it'd probably best to just buy a new car, much less hassle in the long run (hopefully if you dont pick up a lemon)

@MrJames
The coolant nor oil seems to be going down and I always thought that the coolant would be mis coloured due to the old head gasket failure also. It just seems to be heavily over fueling for whatever reason...
I'll just have to take it to the garage on Monday. I speak to the bloke often as he's told me everything to do to save me money and said bring it in Monday if problems persist as were both out of simple ideas and fixes so he will have a proper look then.
Hope for the best :/

It ran like shit when I started it this morning but then ended up running spot on. Water and oil are fine but it's still backfiring...
Is it possible that the Lucas fuel treatment I ran through it recently is still in the system and getting blasted out..?
I unplugged the coolant temp sensor and the gauge stopped working win the warning light, I plugged it back in and it got the right temperature so is it alright or can it be only struggling to get low temperatures?

Perhaps he can't afford a new car- we're not all millionaires!! AND I never even got 5% off my tax- not rich enough !!

I cleaned the plugs, cleaned the lambda, there was a bolt loose on my manifold, cleaned the injectors as there was tiny bits of grit in them and now it runs like a brand new car lmao. It's never been so smooth! Productive weekend hurrah!
Compression test came back really good, was as though brand new. Good job I kept on trying rather than just getting a new car eh!
Until tomorrow when something else falls off as saxos do :P

well with so many problems you gotta hope for a miracle havent you, and with so many expensive jobs possibly needing to be done, its a false economy to fix them if a new car is cheaper

Well this issue was fixed for nothing, it's not about hoping for a miracle it's about getting stuck in, learning and fixing as you go, not throwing the towel in at the slightest problem like this one turned out to be.

see its stuff like this, yeah i see getting stuck in and seeing whats going on and searching for issues is the best, but if all that work did need doing, HG etc then you'd all agree a new car would be more sensible. Some people are lucky,, im just bias cos my saxo has already cost me a fortune, a new fault everyday

all cars have their problems, some more than others but I don't see how buying a new car is saving you any money because you still have the car that isn't working properly that you need to sell which is now worth alot less than when you bought it because its not working.. Better fixing imo than buying another car you know nothing about!

Car has started playing up again. Rev sticking and just doesn't feel as nippy. I put a new map sensor on and it started backfiring and ran even worse...
Plugs and lambda are clean. Just don't understand what's causing it and there's no error code

Maybe the ICV if the revs are sticking?

i know how you feel mine was doing this a while back and still is a bit, ive changed injectors, coil pack, crank sensor, map sensor, icv, new plugs, fuel filter, fuel pump, coolant sensor think thats it. lambda next on the list. did the fuel cleaner stuff make any difference?

Nope it's just got worse. Going 30 in 4th and my engine just went flat, I had to pull into a side road an when I put my clutch down the engine cut out. Turned it back on and it was fine.
Second occasion the same happened, dropped it into 3rd and no power, dropped it into 2nd and it felt as though all the power it should have plus more kicked in and it went like fuck. It just feels bogged down all the time. Im at the point of giving up so i think I'm just going to shot some money at a garage to find out what's happening...

Check your exhaust for blockages, failed cat etc. What have you changed sensors wise? and you have tried another ECU on it?

It'll just be one sensor or something somewhere that I just cannot find. Booked in the garage next Wednesday... I know the bloke so he wont empty my pockets - too much!
The idle is fine and so are cold starts but it's just when im driving it seems... Will see today wether it's only when the engines warm
