just bought my self another VTR W376 XDS cherry red, pretty good body condition.
everythin looked ok until the drive home and this is where i realised what i just bought.
MOT 4/3/2013 11mths+
took it to a garage this afternoon.
death trap!
both rear bearings have callapsed, rear wheels rubbing inner arch. mega camber.
front disks warped.
N/S wish bone - play.
no side lights, dash lights, break light.
bald N/S tire.
N/S CV Boot.
susspension strut.
quoted £700 for a real MOT and this is not including the grinding noise from gearbox.
car has done 500miles since MOT, am goin to phone the MOT garage tomorrow and enquire why it has a MOT, then maybe VOSA..
takes real scum to sell somethin like this

Did you not look at the car before you bought it? did you just walk to it with your eyes shut and open them in the car and drive??
Stuff like that is a pretty easy spot tbh.. Specially the back axle

24th March 2012, 00:26
I question why didnt you walk away. The axel is the biggest giveaway going along with dash lights as you well try everything.

i didn't notice the axle, only the handling issue i have..
lights were not used until the night.
clearly am not going to get the money back, am stuck with this now.. but am hoping the phone call to the MOT station may help

Go back to the lad and tell him its a dodgy MOT and you will report him for selling a dangerous car with a dodgy MOT, and he will shit himself and for the money back over :)

Yeah threaten him with VOSA , nobody wants them sniffing around. They need reporting anyway tbh, shouldnt have passed with that many faults. When i go to look at a car i have a right good check over it, the seller must think im a right tosser but at the end of the day you cant trust anyone :y:

not if they are a genuine seller, genuine sellers won't mind it

Sold as seen im assuming? You should really check tyres and camber on a saxo really and maybe test drive because the clutch could be on its way out, knocks and rattles. Then you can point the faults out and get it cheaper.

Wahey, divvy boy strikes again. Sold as seen only applies to auctions, but whatever.
In your case though, OP, I think it will all come down to how the car is described... If it was described as being faultless, then you have a case. Post up the advert if you can, because the only obligation a private seller has is to describe it accurately, but they are under no obligation to provide you with a car of satisfactory quality...

If the axle is that fucked that the wheels are leaning in and scrubbing, I cant get to grips with how you never noticed this?

24th March 2012, 09:43
Going to sound stupid here but, i know the obvious signs of a dodgy axle, but what are the other signs ?

LMFAO divvy boy, :clapping:
to be honest, how did you not notice some of the above faults and did you not drive it prior to purchase?
JoshB
24th March 2012, 12:54
Some of those faults look blatantly obvious to me so I'm suprised you bought it.
Don't forewarn the garage, just ring VOSA and tell them how you've bought a death trap of a car that has just recieved a 12 month MOT. They'll slide down the fire pole and run to the garage, they love shit like this.

+1 to this.

First thing you should have done is check the rear axle for camber, rubbing the arch would have been so obvious.

I don't know how you can come on the internet and tell about your troubles without taking any action first..
Pull your fucking finger out and go round to the garage, if you're not very confident with face to face confrontations then ring them, tell them you demand money to pay for the repairs or you will ring VOSA, if they refuse then ring VOSA as soon as you put the phone down.
Then, come on here and type up some gossip..
Seriously, some people need to get a grip and man up abit.

Extend your neck upwards and forwards while simultaneously tilting your head backwards to a 45-60 degree angle thus leaving you with a raised chin.

Your own fault for buying it in that state tbh. You dont need to be a mechanic to notice 90% of them faults...
EDIT: Re-reading what is wrong with your car, your simply an idiot.

We've all bought shitters, did you buy privately or trade?
Act quickly, get on to vosa etc.
jones91
25th March 2012, 08:59
To be honest mate, I think it is very unlikely that VOSA will be able to do anything about it, the garage will just say that the car has done 500 miles since the mot, and the previous owner has swapped everything over since
But I think most of them faults should of been noticed before you bought it though

I've just reg checked this car and it's coming up as a Volvo S80... WTF???
blackie_2k5
25th March 2012, 15:14
as already said..get straight onto the seller and tell him your going to phone vosa if he doesnt come straight to collect the car with the money you paid
he'll come running as he wont want the garage dropped in..chances are its his mate or hes a trader and regulary does this..so defo wont want the bloke caught
then phone vosa anyway :p

i basicly bought the car without viewing it.. it was advertised with 12mths MOT.. why would i expect a callapsed axle?
its either w376 xds or y376 xds.
looking on the MOT history, its not a real VTR, its been registed as one in 2007

yes, they are all really bad people...untill they want one themselves.
dont you feel like you are master of the puppets when people come to get an MOT with you, with the "it shouldnt fail on anything" routine.
i cant help but think "it fucking will now!!!!!" but whilst im here, im going to have a little play with you first...giggidy.
