Alright guys. A couple of you have probably seen the 405 if you've been over. But for those who haven't then here's the shed as she stands.

Bought for £220, plus mot, tracking & tax = £400

Gave it a FULL service, including cambelt for only a tenner! Engines only on 55k and i fitted it last year with new tensioners and waterpump anyhow.

Slapped on some Xsara VTS front shocks (inch shorter than 405) and some -35mm 306 springs... Cars actually lighter than a 306 i beleive. Ended up with a 70mm drop at the front, did the rear to -80mm... now the tracking and headlight alignment needs doing again :/

Anyhow, i love it. My bargain car that does 45 - 50 mpg @ £1 per litre (or less) on Veg oil, amazing how many people ask me 'OMG does your car run on that' when they see me filling up in random places. I do use a few quid diesel in there though, stops it Gelling in the cold mornings.

Work in progress TBH, dont have much time with work but planning something with paintwork OR vinyl. Bonnet roof and boot have got major laquer peel. But it adds to the rat...

My bank account says I should probably get one of these like you have, I think they take a fair bit of work to look good though, slam it!

This veg oil is getting more and more popular, the car looks clean and cheap though, gotta get it to the floor with a different lick of paint on them wheels ;)

You realise it's down 70mm front and 80mm rear?

Hi Guys.

Made myself a zorst out of a scrap stainless xsara vts mid section and some ally pipe left over from a 306 intercooler. Oooh, and a bit of spare wheel cage for the hanger.

from experience, vinyl sticks better to a very smooth surface, to the extent that when you remove it the glue stays behind!! (easily removed with white spirit though). I applied it to areas part polished paint, part sanded, and it stuck better to the polished area. Only place you might need to sand is the lacquer peel otherwise high points will show through.

Nice little project though, did you have to do anything to run it on a part veg oil mix or just throw a load in the tank?

I'll crack the DA sander out before any vinyl goes on. I'm really tempted by a black/black chequer.
