I sprayed carb cleaner in mine and it was fine.

As long as its just a couple of quick blasts it will be ok, may take a few seconds to start and run lumpy for a few seconds whilst it burns it all through.

I got told by a garage that its fine to spray in,but not to do it whilst the engine is running.:drink:

Yeah agreed, turn off the engine before giving it a few short blasts of the cleaner.

Then start it and wait for it to burn through.

not being funny but what difference would it make either way you still have to start engine and burn it off same thing would happin if its running just a thought

I was told that if you spray it in when the engine is running & the exhaust gets a blockage causing excess back pressure then its possible that the timing can slip a tooth.(wrecked engine):drink:

Wasnt able to find a guide on this - can anyone link one?

My car cuts out periodically when dropping the clutch. So I've rubbed down the ICV with carb cleaner and a cloth - also gave my inlet 2 quick squirts with the carb cleaner.

No luck, it's still doing it. So I've either done something wrong/not thoroughly enough or perhaps I need a new ICV or it's another issue

That's a link to the guide on how to thoroughly clean your icv.
As stated though, this isn't guaranteed to work.
