Hi everyone, I was just reading a thread in the styling section about stripping the paint from the wheels back to bare metal and just polishing them up. I was just wondering if anyone had done this on their rocker cover and if you have any pics...
Cheers!

6th April 2012, 23:54
You can do the rocker cover mate but unless there is no rust on it at all it won't look very good. Also once it's polished up you will need to clear coat it to stop it rusting.

Thanks for the response mate, might pick up a spare one and try it on that

After discovering a leak from my sunroof I stripped out the headlinig to discover two wonderful rust patches in the corners of the sunroof where the water was leaking in. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to get the whole thing out and re-seal everything which will be great fun. Some good news as well however! I'm off to Chelmsford this evening to pick up a debadged boot lid! Can't wait :D

10th April 2012, 17:57
Well after discovering the leak yesterday I went to get some filler and sealant and all the stuff I'd need to temporarily sort it. However, I was on my motorbike and some little shits decided to drive like absolute twats and leave me in the middle of the road. How kind people are nowadays. Anyways, I wasn't too badly injured but I decided to leave it until today. When I got home I had a message from "JoshFurioBrookes" so I headed to Chelmsford to pick up a debadged bootlid!! :y:
So, today...
Sorted out the holes, cleared all of the loose crap, filled them and then covered them with sealant so I'm hoping this will hold up until I can get it sorted properly. The rooflining looks a bit grubby so I'm looking to get a new one and retrim it which will be nice :)
I also fitted the bootlid all on my own! :clapping:
Plans:
Good Clean tomorrow
NEEDS LOWERING!!!!!!!
4-2-1 Manifold (please let me know if you have any recommendations)
A subtle backbox just big enough to fill the cut out nicely
Considering widemouthing
Also if anyone has any tips on how to remove the black vinyl on the front doors by the window it would be much appreciated. I did the passenger one today but it was a bloody nightmare!
So heres some pictures from my eventful day...

Cheers
I've had those springs in the past, Apex is a good way to go, the 50mm kit is generally considered the best kit for low budget. Buy it off KamRacing thats where its normally cheapest. £211 I think, and you get Springs and Front and Rear Dampers.
To buy it all separately would be around £275 posted I think!

Hmm, you raise a good point here! I'm currently selling some gear off on eBay to raise funds! Lol. Have you still got the back box as well? I get paid next week so I'll probably be in touch again if it's still available! I'm gonna pretty much resurrect your car in my own at this rate!

Well after I bodged up the leaking roof we had another large down pour and the leak was still there slightly! So, back to the start again. I stripped the roof lining out etc and took the area around the hole back to bare metal then filled it with chemical metal. This stuff is quality!! It seems to have completely stopped the leak now :D Well, my headlining was in a bit of a mess so I cleaned it up and used this as an excuse to retrim it. Soooo, off i went to get some black leather. This might sound a bit tacky but it looks so smart imo! I've done the parcel shelf to match as well. Will get some decent pictures up when this weather sorts it self out!

Well as much as I love my posi mk1, after seeing some really nice black mk2's on here I really wanted one. So, after some bargain hunting I managed to find this little gem for £390!!!! Only 77000 miles and 3 previous owners, little tax and mot. I had to drive it home over 100 miles and it was spot on mechanically, didn't miss a single beat. It needed a couple bits doing:
-Exhaust heatshield was hanging down - fixed - cost £0
-Airbag light was on - fixed, loose clip - cost £0
-Passenger side front wheel was pushed back and rubbing on arch when turning - fixed, new lower arm - £55
And thats it really! I'm going to replace the drivers side lower arm as well because that looks like its had a bit of a knock but all in all a bargain for a total spend of £445!
Only thing now is, I cant decide which one to sell because I know I can pretty much double my money on the mk2 which would be nice :)

Yeah all clear mate, only downside is that it doesnt have service history. Thats what I was tempted to do with the money, only thing is that its better to drive than the posi, it feels a lot smoother.
Decisions decisions decisions!!

Going to get the mk2 mot'ed today! Don't know why, but I'm so nervous! I've been reading up a lot and done all of the obvious checks so I'm hoping it'll pass. I think I'll stick it up for sale if it does with 1 years mot and 6 months tax. Could make it a nice little earner for me :y:

Failed!
Was a bit Pissed off because the guy who tested it said the car is sound but unfortunately where the lower arm ball joint inserts into the hub, there is too much movement because the hub has worn from where the previous owner left the bad wishbone :( this means a replacement hub is needed, but that's a pain to do so I've just managed to get a complete strut and hub from eBay for £30 :y: so it's not all bad. Hopefully have it sorted next week and have the mk2 up for sale!!

Well, I've had lots happening lately. I sold the black Mk2 for £985 last week which gave me a very tasty profit and also things have slowed down on the mk1. Ive had a lot of fun with my Saxo over the last few months but I have been in serious need of a bigger car.
Sooo..... I bought myself a Hyundai Coupe! I'm getting mixed reviews on it but I think its a top notch car, its feels so modern to drive compared to the saxo and its so much more smoother and comfortable. Because of this the time has come to say goodbye to my mk1 and Im now open to offers ;) When I get a chance I'm going to set up a new thread for it.
