hello guys, i appoligise if this is in the wrong section or whatever but need a few ideas ASAP! :wall:

right my mates y reg astra van 1.7 turbo diesel, he had a quater of a tank of diesel and went and put £20 worth in before going out BUT it died after a good few miles and wouldnt restart or if it would restart it would only rev to about 2,000RPM then die, he also cant remember what fuel he put in it, weather it was diesel or petrol!! and threw the recipt away (DIV) so i got him back to his house by towing him, but it wont start at all now and has about a quater of a tank left and it had about a half a tank after he put £20 in it, it was hard to tell if it was petrol in it as couldnt really smell it as diesel is alot stronger but it didnt smell 100% right like diesel should, and the filter smelt a little petroly and got a second appinion on the smell and he said it had petrol in it, so we drained the tank so the needle didnt even move when ignition got turned on, blew fuel back thru pipes so it will draw some fresh up and then filled the filter housing with fresh diesel then sucked the pipe so the pipe was full of diesel, it will start and rev but will die when the filter housing is empty? surely it should keep flowing as pipe is full of diesel and so it the filter houseing? :wall:

any ideas would be greatly appreciated

thanks again matt

i think some diesels have to be primed manully with fuel . you need one of these or It might be already hiding in the engine bay

Defo sounds like the wrong fuel has been used.

Drain all of the petrolly diesel out from anywhere possible and crank it a few times before filling up with diesel again. Should get rid of what's in the pipes.

There's no priming device on it, apparently its self bleed?

And I've drained all fuel and put £25 worth of fresh diesel in it do should be fine haha

Cheers for replys matt

I've now changed filter and filled the filter housing with fresh deisel, bled it up and it ran like a dream for about 10 mins then it died and won't restart!! Could it be diesel pump on way out?? :@

Plug it in on diagnostics if you can, these things have common faults with diesel injection unit.

just a thought but vauxhall engines have a relay that controlls the fuel on most it in the front right hand side of the engine bay try that

yes mate it certainly was this i had it down work and plugged our diagnostic machine on it and it said diesel injection pump and deisel spill valve.. replaced the ECM on back on engine what controlls diesel pump as these are common to burn out replaced it and it fired straight into life and been as sweet as a nut! hant missed a beat so far, touch wood!! :D

cheers everyone else for comments and ideas :y:

yep agree with common problems on fuel injection units. the pumps can be extremely costy and need re programmed to car as they have their own ECU called an EDU (no idea y)
