So while I was waiting to pick it up I was getting excited about plans. First things first, the wheels need to be sorted. All MINI split rims have terrible problems with bubbling. They look wrecked at the moment, and really need taking back to base and starting again. So those were my original plans....
But then I got swayed by some BBS lm's.
http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p111/Lacey-lea/758cf547.jpg
But they are fucking expensive and I knew it would be a while off until I could afford to get some.
Whilst browsing for that elusive BBS bargain, I came across some Schmidt th lines. I actually fell in love.

I think they are slightly marmite wheels? But they are completely indestructible and therefore a sound investment. :p

Gearbox is hard work! I'm working those guns! Feels huge compared to the Saxo, turning circle isn't brilliant compared to the sax.
But I love it. It can do no wrong in my eyes currently :p

lmao, I quite like the box, feels very solid, the steering feels heavy as hell to me, like i'm drivin a bus :panic: standard cooper doesn't feel any quicker than my Sax either which is abit disappointing

Standard cooper feels heavy and sluggish IMO. I had a cooper before this, I can't even explain the difference to you in terms of power, it's just there immediately, you never have to wait. It's good fun. :)

Gotta be honest, the schmidts look a bit schmidt on that mini. On the other hand those LM's would look the nuts!

yeah, doesn't seem to kick in till about 3k revs, seems almost bogged down from anything less than that. Shame the S was a silly cost to insure over the standard Cooper. Not sure on the Schmidts, need some kind of multispoke like the BBS

I'd go for the th lines. I like how you've got the computer thingy where the speedo normally goes. Couldnt get on with fayes having it there. Glad it wasnt just our gearbox that felt stiff too.
Lacey_106
28th March 2012, 10:38
I do like the BBS but they're very expensive and very common. If a cheap set come my way then I'll buy them and then have those AND the th lines. But the Schmidts are my fave. They're different and they are completely indestructible. I like that.
Yeah Tom, all the gearboxes are stiff, notice it more so in my s than I did in the cooper though. Apparently the gearboxes are coated with Teflon? Cool.

I think your mean the supercharger is coated in teflon ;)
The gearbox's between the cooper and s are different the cooper s box is much stronger.

Something about those schmidts doesn't look right to me!
You thought about RS/RM's?

or rotiforms?

I can remove if you want.
Just save, look about for bargins! You will find one!
Lacey_106
28th March 2012, 11:58
Love the RS/RM's but they're even more expensive. The tyres for all of these wheels are ridiculous enough by themselves.
I got tempted to buy a golf I saw advertised locally with some BBS RM's on, just nick them off and sell it on again. but by the time i'd decided to it'd gone :(
Gibbo... Not a fan of the GP wheels. Don't know why. Just look a bit, erm... Cheap?

Yeah definatly RS rims, im going for these on the golf at some point soon

Either of the wheels really but although the TH lines are more common... someone literally has gone out of their way to be different with those Schmidts probably the only Mini with them on or at least that coloured Mini...and your going to make your car look pretty much the same... I'd find that slightly irritating if I was OP especially as I bet they weren't cheap lol.
BBS LM's Polished center black outer rim job done. Or invert that lol.
Nice car though I'm reasonably jealous...

Actually Jamie that pic with the schmidt's is an epic showcase of some amazing photoshop skill. There's a red and white cooper s on schmidt's that is the only one I could find with them on.
Most people are going to hate them, but I really do like them. Might end up with a few different wheels. I get bored easily. Schmidt's are definitely happening though.

I personally cannot see how that is a photoshop tbh....the reflection of the car park lines in the wheels are perfect, the shadows etc are all spot on, there are also reflections of light off the wheels onto the floor.

Look closely at the rims. They are squ-wif.
Looks like they have been free transformed using warp, perspective tool and skew.

Not heard of them, on the dave.f you have to drill a 76mm hole through the plastic scuttle, it sounds extreme but fitted it looks standard and sounds amazing.

No it is really heavy and the gearbox is really stiff. Turning circle is pretty damn poor too.
If it works out cheaper to buy a car then sell it on I'll definitely do that!

Might keep hold of the standard wheels and just use them for winter.
Need to change the brakes in a couple of weeks (payday). Really wanted to go down the brembo 4 pot route, but I reckon its just going to be too tight money wise for the time being. :n:

Yeah, my old mini cooper had the speedo in the middle. Took A LOT of getting used to. But now I look there still expecting a speedo. Slowly getting used to it again :p

a grand? for what a full conversion?
a good pad, discs, braided brake lines and a good fluid. would run no where near that. that would be more than up to the job of any road task and a few flying laps of most tracks.

Have they gone to shit? I haven't heard anything about them lately, good or bad...
Thought they were selling cheaply.
Back when Fuzzy had the Quiksilver, he said something along the lines of you'd be better ramming bars of chocolate in the brakes than those...
Fair few varying reviews on PH here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=981045
I've not heard a great amount of good things about them, but looking through various forums it seems there are a few who actually rate them.

the dishes on the rs's seem to be deepr and have a nicer shape to them
but yea the rc's polished would look good and if the rs's are 15" then too smalll, you dont want to be the chick "with the iddy biddy rims!"

Yeah, I've refurbed and sprayed my wheels before so I'd feel confident enough to be able to do it and not screw it up. :p
If I got these though I'd want them polished up properly. :y:
They are 5x120's though so I'd need adapters and I really didn't want to do that :( :n:

Lacey have you thought about a GTT re-route pipe?
http://www.gtt.uk.com/parts2.asp
Second one down,
It removes the first back box (the one on the right) and is done simply by cutting and removing and replacing with that pipe, many people fit them and you gain 3-5bhp and gives the exhaust a nice tone, £80 seems steep for a bit of pipe but I wanted to do mine properly, just ordered mine now :)
