Personally I'm not a fan of the gel type batteries, what do people think to these as an option? Anyone tried or used them? Do they have enough cranking power?

What do you mean not a fan of the dry cell gel batteries? What's wrong with them?

I've had a odysee and it's been spot on for years with no problems at all..

Can't really comment on the lithium ones as never used them. No doubt they will be good though

40 cranking amps doesn't sound enough, I'm sure Saxo/ax batteries are like 150 or possibly more iirc

Don't like them Danny, simple as that. Heard & seen too many bad stories. My car can sit for months on end, I couldnt think of anything worse than having to cycle charge a battery to make sure it works the following year

Mark - you got his number?

That's weird, I've seen 100's being used with very few problems..

My car has sat around just like yours and I've never had problems.

Ok Mark will do :)

Danny that's crazy, do you have a special charger to go with it?

No mate, just turn my cut off switch whenever I don't use the car then if it's been standing for a long time (months) then give it a charge..
They don't like fast chargers though.. Trickle chargers are better

That's mental, my main issue is the alternator will be geared down to reduce drag on the engine, so won't get the charge it might require...

I know a guy that sells them, he's a fellow hillclimber from south Scotland. :)

He sells skyrich ones iirc.

You really must have been unlucky. I haven't heard any bad stories. And they are designed with low output alternators in mind anyway

josh if it helps your decision/ saves you some money, my car hasnt been started for nearly eight months, i had forgotten to turn the kill switch off, but the car started up on the odysee battery and it took a few cranks :D

pm the oldman (ashley) on shed he might be able to sort you a decent priced one ;)

Allan, who sells them uses one on his sports libre class evo powered mini. He does say you might be better using a jumper pack for cold starts 1st thing in the morning though.

Email Allan for more info.
