They still seem to hold their own in the business world.

Businesses seem to prefer the fact that you can lock down every aspect of a BlackBerry to make them a pretty secure device.

Closest thing you can do with an iPhone is wipe it using an corporate Exchange server. Any more and you have to go out and invest in stupidly expensive MDM servers and Apple Developer licences.

I think if they can go back to focusing on Enterprise markets like they used to, then they just may stand a chance of surviving.

Apple on the other hand... surely their days are numbered? There has to become a point where the entire world realises "Yes, this is quite a boring phone now".

Apple will always be around, as long as they keep their advertising team.

Agree to a certain extent. I work for an IT firm and all our portable devices are apple.

The main advantage to me as an apple user is its resale value. I can see the time when that drops significantly being the time they hit trouble

I still remember when Apple and Blackberry were fruit. Those were innocent times.......

75% market plunge ... owtch :n:
Although I don't own a single RIM/ Blackberry device, I wish them best of luck in pulling through the drought period.
I like a competitive market, It prevents other manufacturers becoming complacent.
A less competitive market would ultimately result in less risk taking and prevent development into unique projects and technologies.
For example, imagine the impact of the Nintendo Wii never being designed or released :geek:

Interesting points there.

IMO all BB have to do is redesign the iPhone. Phones don't need full qwerty keyboards nowadays or silly littke fiddly tracker balls regardless of what people think

Alot of people prefer to have a proper keypad. Touch screens are not great for quite a few people with different forms of disability either. I know a girl who got ill and lost fingers from it etc. Having buttons helps her no end.

What has killed blackberry has been the contracts offered by the networks. 2 years on a device which when released isnt seen as cutting edge in its software, where as iFail I got 12months tie in.

For emails the proper keyboard is significantly better to use.

Blackberry won't go, Microsoft will buy them out first and do something big with them.

Like said about the iPhone it cannot be reproduced or get any better in effect, its the end of the product life, when it reaches the top of the S curve. This will really only happen when someone else brings something out to the table that's better. This could be Microsoft......i just don't see how the iPhone can be made any better, every update or new iPhone is very small in terms of the product growth.

A way to make the ifail better. Make the battery last more than 5mins, make the software able to accept flash sites etc..

Won't be much point soon any way, with sites moving to HTML5. Still useful having flash on my GS2, although i don't use it much.

I cannot stand flash, but there are still a large number of sites running it.

I expected the bbc site update to be compatable with the ipad for example, but noooo still runs flash.

We use blackberries as the corporate solution but we are being pressured to start offering iPhones as people prefer them, only a matter of time before we give in...

You bang on about the awful battery life on the iBone but I've yet to read a review of any of the other big players in the smart phone game that has a significantly better battery life.

My 4 is about 16/17 months old now, out of contract so I could "upgrade" if I wanted to, hammered to death EVERY day and it still lasts me until I go to bed at night.....

My SGS2 is lucky to last a day with a hammering. I think the problem is, big bright screens = poor battery life.

Not to mention, batteries are shit. My BlackBerry lasts 3 days but I feel like that's also because it's a piece of shit.

to be honest, battery life on all smart phones is bloody crap!

I'm using a joke of a phone as I left my htc in a taxi, the battery lasts a week easily that's what smart phones need to develop
