rear axle

will a vtr/vts rear axle fit straight onto a 1.1?? just as my axle is fucked and if i want to replace i'd rather have the discs on the back too.

should fit ok, will push the back wheels out a bit more than the 1.1 beam as they are a bit wider so just make sure your wheels clear the arches ok after

I had mine replaced not long ago, trouble is I went for a used one and didn't have it refurbished first, now it looks like I'm getting camber again, so yes, definitely check for play, also if you can get a look at it on the donor car first its always a bonus, so you can see how much camber the wheels have, it shouldn't be much, if any

Also consider getting it refurbished if its second hand, you don't know what kind of life its been through

Don't go down my road basically as now I think I may need a new one!

Walk away.

The only good way of checking if it has play is if it's already on a car, grabbing the wheel and shaking side to side to see if there is any movement. Very difficult to gauge if it has play in it when it's off the car.

As said, check the camber

I have went down the route of buying 2nd hand axles twice. The first time I got away with it, had no problems. The second time I wasn't so lucky and basically pissed £250 ( all in ) up against the wall. I wasn't making the same mistake so I contacted IMaxles and got a refurbed one, which comes with a warranty. They are on here

Check the axle bushes if you can, it's the rubber part in the above picture, centre top.

Thanks for the advice :). i was gonna go to the local scrappy but i think he takes them off the motors, unless he's got somthing in recently, i'll have a look at breakers etc too see if i can find i decent one.

mine atm pretty much looks like the 106 above ^^

also is it worth going for vtr/s axle, im not putting a 1.6 lump in so would it be really worth it?

I`d stick to what you`ve got as regards the axle,also i`d get a recon 1 as you don`t know how much life is in a 1 from a scrappy mate.:drink:

tbh im only after one to give it another run for about 4-5months then im getting a new car and i'll be selling this, but its weather getting one from the scrappy would also last that long :/. i dont really want to be paying through the roof when i'll not get the money back on the car.

It might last years but then it might last a month and you'll be back at the same place you were but having to spend more money.

Do it right and do it once. Plus, it'll be a HUGE selling point when selling the car on. As it's one of the most common problems with Saxo/Pugs it's one of the first things people ask/check when coming to view the car.

That plate is connected to the anti roll bar and held in with a bolt.

You can see it in this pic, with the bolt in place.

I think the ARB plate is common in going. If I remember correctly though, it doesn't affect the camber, not sure though !

Maybe someone with more knowledge can comment about that.
