View Full Version : Under car neons

No this isn't a piss take thread.

Basically I want to use some form of neon lighting on a photoshoot and it seems that crappy undercar neons can be had off of people for next to nothing, as opposed to costing me a couple of hundred for a similar non car set up.

So a few questions for anyone who has had/has them.

Which could help me out on a photoshoot (I dont want LED ones as the light source isnt a consistent beam)

1. Do the tubes get hot to handle? (if you have ever tried touching them when on)

2. Are the tubes when lit almost white in the centre with the colour being shown on the outside of the tube/object its lighting.

3. Are the tubes quite chunky or have they started using really thin strips that would barely be noticed if you had one in your hand.

4. They can be wired into the mains, has anyone done this just for 'lol' reasons at home.

Ps if any of the usual keyboard warriors want to spam my thread with shite my finger is ready on the ban button for you ;)

if its for a photoshoot can you not add it in with photoshop? surely you will be able to get the desired effect?

Still lost as to why you would want the effect

i put them on my car last year. cant answer many of your questions. tubes were bout 1inch thick, the whole tube glowed blue, werent too hot to handle. and i guess they could be used on the mains as they run off 12v the set i had had a adaptor that plugged in from the batter almost like a phone charger for a old nokia

Use light sabers.

Probably as cheap as I can get without using the bodging of car ones.. When I want 4-8 you can see why I'm toying with bogging car ones.

Sadly the force isn't with me.

Have a look at cathode lights like the ones people put in computer towers.

I used 1m led strips on both sides of mine. They show up rather bright.

Then I read you don't want to use leds

Ja neon tubes give even light. Led gives hot spots that are from each individual LED.
