View Full Version : Stripped out daily driver?

keeping my saxo stripped for when she hits the road
Anyone drive a stripped one day to day? im used to loud cars so that bit doesnt bother me, but is it worth putting in the carpet/headliner etc for living with it? The a/b pillar trims and roof liner itself weigh so little that they might be worth keeping in for the comfort aspect.
Carpet im not so sure on as it weighs in hefty enough
Anyone else drive one day to day that can chime in ? cheers

Why would you want to make a daily car uncomfortable and noisy, its a daily car not a track or weekend car.
You just look like an idiot driving a stripped car on the roads and what you are describing is just a saxo with its rear seats removed :homme: scream chav.

Well seeing as you asked some questions and I answered your questions, I would say that is helpful! Unless ive mistaken your sarcasm for a straight answer?

My first line clearly answers your question giving my opinion (chiming in) about having the choice of being uncomfortable or comfortable in a daily driven car.

I would like oppinions from people who run a stripped saxo, on weither to keep the carpet/headliner when the rest is stripped..
I do not see why you posted in this thread, unless you like being condacending, as you havent answered the questions - which were as i outlined in the first line of this post, not just should i strip it in general..

I give up. As you cannot interpret a reply given as a sentence here is a one word answer:
No.

Mine is stripped in the rear, i wish every single day i drive it that i could have the interior back in but i use it to carry lots of stuff and also cant take people in the back even if there were seats.

Just for the noise, the only difference from the drivers seat is noise really. its just pointless on a road car as the stuff thats removed dosent weigh so much to make a difference on the road really.

Exactly :y:
Someone saying they wished the rear of their car wasnt stripped was more on topic than me saying why would you want a daily car to be uncomfortable and noisy.
Confused to fuck!
There is just no benifit to removing abc pillars, carpet and head liner on a daily car.

LOL sorry mate didnt realise i hadnt replied to you, the lot will be staying out mostly, and a cage to go in before it sees any events. Was looking through some galleries there and saw one with basically the stage of emptyness mine is at (bare inside except dash/seat) but had carpet and headliner in and still managed to look like a nice enough place to be inside

this, i remove all the sound deading for a mate but he wanted to keep the carpet in , was noticably more noisey inside the car and only lost a small amount of weight :homme:. A road car needs to be a road car and a track car need to be just for the track if you want to strip it properly IMO, as once you have made a saxo a full track car its a horrible daily driver .

Mochachino im soon to be at uni so will be living in the city centre, car will only be used at weekends and the odd time during the week. Living in a shared house or flat in the city centre wont allow for two cars to sit, and insurance wont exactly be kind to me on that front either. So wanting a track toy leaves not much other options. So i have no issue with it being loud or abit uncomfortable, but the minor details might make it alot easier to live with on the road

If you strip it fully then it will be a noisey drive tbh. It will probably get to you after a while but if you can put up with the noise and still want an element of 'standard interior' in you car then just do what you mentioned originally and leave the carpet and head lining in as it weighs sod all :y:

If you are hardly going to be driving it then go full on with stripping it, no point removing a part that weighs 500gramm, but remove 10 of these peices and it adds up. Go to town, all sound deadening behind the dash, roof lining literally everything, aribag ecu and wiring, ABS pump, rear wiper and mech, interior plastics, door cards, electric windows and install poly carbs. Relocate the battery to the boot to even out abit of weight.
Every little helps, but a little on its own does as much good as not doing it at all!

At the moment im pretty much at that stage, lexan/polycarbs will have to wait a while though as funds are low but the car is pretty much bare inside bar dash/front seats. Suppose the best route will be get it MOTd and drive it for a while and see what i can live with

There isnt much weight difference between the glass and polycarb windows, the weight saving is removing all the electric window setup and that cant really be replaced, well it can just abit of hassle. So make sure its what you want to do. Involves drilling rivits out the window motor etc.
Obviously would be more convenient if you crash with polycarb windows rather than glass though

What I'll say is this fella I personally wouldn't bother with a fully stripped saxo as a daily unless "daily" was purely weekend use.
I used to drive my unstripped saxo every day to work and back which equated to just over 60 odd miles a day - which equated to headaches and a bad back - that was going from using it solely at weekends to every single day, whilst it was a joy to drive it was a tad tedious - so if you're running the car every single day step away from the toolbox and don't begin stripping. If it's occasional use and the cars more a toy (like my car is now) then go forth and get it how you want it - I haven't drove my saxo for five months and can't wait to use it on it's first session on track :y:

Cheers for that mate. Its most likely to be the occasional scoot around town and a drive to my mum or dads at weekends just, plus the odd track stint ofcorse! wouldnt be anything like 60 mile a day thankfully

i curerntly have have no carpet no rear seats. no sound deadning. and tbf apart from a
wtf is that hissing noise which turned out to be the fuel pump lol.
can't really say it's much different to the std car. still gets toasty hot when need. a tad louder but not much to shout about unless your on the motorway.
but personally now i have sorted the leak out the carpet will be going back in, just to hide the wires. the airbag one can be caught with your foot so easily on the passengers side.
and i'm using it daily as it's my main car

If your at uni on doubt you'll be affording track days so it isn't a track car. At least when I was at uni I couldn't even afford a car! What you'll be wanting is a steed to go shopping in and get your little uni mates in to spend coupons at asda. Wait till you get a job and some proper money before you go building track cars.

My 106 was stripped, I loved it. My Mazda was stripped, loved it. Mazda's got all the carpets back in now, and while it's a much nicer place to be, it doesn't feel half as nice to drive. First time I drove it with the carpets back in, I said I didn't feel as connected as before...

Sounds to me like you're after someone to agree with you that its a good idea. Will it ever see a track? Is it your only car, will you want to take your student chums shopping for bogofs. These are the questions you should be asking.

Im only looking oppinions on the carpet situation really if i should keep it or not, roof liner is so legligable that i might just leave that in
Its definitely staying mostly stripped, and yes it will see the track

well this dose kick up some banter .its a simple think.if ya want to go round town on a wkend with a couple of tools in the back and a sub thats so heavy the car sits half inch off the floor..then leave the seats in.on the other hand if ya a weight freek then ditch it and deal with the row it makes
