Holla!
About time I got a thread for my car build I suppose.
It had been a while since I'd been away from the Saxo seen after having three in my early years of driving, but I was wanting a project car, but cheap. A friend off SSC offered me a VTS for £150, winner!
Anyway, I'll let some pictures do the talking
We had to borrow a trailer to collect the car as it had been sat in a garage for FOUR years!
After a quick clean

and tucked up ready to be sorted out!

Cheers Guys,
Right then, a bit more of an update
Lastly on the front was to tidy the wishbones up, replace the bushes and paint the ARB

Once the front was sorted, it was time to turn the car round and work on the back end
Beam off

Once all the suspension had been worked on (I will probably have to replace the shocks at some point, but the main aim is to get the car to a working state)
it was time to turn the Saxo again and work on the engine / bay.
Front end stripped down ready to remove the engine (about 1.5hrs work)
http://images55.fotki.com/v585/photos/7/476307/10622133/4_770400463_15002275_6698390_n-vi.jpg
Nearly there
http://images51.fotki.com/v102/photos/7/476307/10622133/64_770400463_15350415_349777_n-vi.jpg
Out! (It was quite late by this point)
http://images43.fotki.com/v1382/photos/7/476307/10622133/4_770400463_15350403_3394516_n-vi.jpg
Next was to get the engine on the stand and start stripping it down to the the gaskets, clean it up, belts and fluid change.
http://images15.fotki.com/v792/photos/7/476307/10622133/4_770400463_15551815_2982386_n-vi.jpg

Then I found a crack in the bottom end!
http://images16.fotki.com/v378/photos/7/476307/10622133/64_770400463_15661740_718768_n-vi.jpg
So went and got a new engine, which got stripped down and painted
http://images42.fotki.com/v664/photos/7/476307/10622133/4_770400463_16816875_5272776_n-vi.jpg

Some bits painted whilst the bay is stripped
http://images57.fotki.com/v505/photos/7/476307/10622133/IMAG0002-vi.jpg
Whilst the engine was out I decided to completely strip the bay of everything, clean all the surface rust and paint the bay up

The stood still for a while as I'd bought a car trailer that needed some working doing on it, but then I bought a SD 6 point cage
http://images112.fotki.com/v681/photos/7/476307/10622133/70400463_21721257_2041359835_o-vi.jpg

which the front end is back out again as I needed to take the dash out to fit a micro heater, which I need to finish fitting it
http://images57.fotki.com/v505/photos/7/476307/10622133/IMAG00142-vi.jpg
I started making up new copper brake lines via a bias valve.
http://images61.fotki.com/v373/photos/7/476307/10622133/P1000058-vi.jpg
but I wasn't happy with the end result, so I've plumped for a set of Swampy's braided brake line kit which I'm yet to fit.
And that's about me up to date. I have got hold of two sets of VTS wheels, a new car trailer which needs some work before I can use it.
Let to do :-
Fit brake lines
Fit heater
Fit cage
Sort the usual rust issues
Buy a seat and mount it
Use the car to iron out any issues before looking a competition licences etc..
I'll try and keep this threa up to date now I've started it :-)

I'm just in the process of building an adaptor to go from the dash vent to the windscreen from the heater. I'll get a photo of it tomorrow as it's still WIP
Also, looking at getting some sheet metal to plate the sunroof over too.

Thanks for all the kind comments guys.
I didn't manage to get another interior shot, but I'd now managed to fit the braided lines from the boot floor to the calipers, I just need to fit the short lines up front, but some of the old fixings are being 'stubborn'.
I also cut a hell of a lot of redundant wiring out the inside of the car. There's some ABS and Alarm wiring still to come out though. I'm now going to run polycarb windows after I cut the electric window loow out, and also the central locking has gone, so I'll have to manually lock each door! :-P
I shall try and get to the garage and get some photo's in the week.

Due to removing the heater matrix and fitting a micro heater, I've had to make an adapter to connect the micro heater to the dash. I just need to add a couple more layers of fibreglass to the above, fit the micro heater and get a short length of flexi tube to go from end to end.
I'm just waiting for the firbeglass to go hard before giving it the extra two layers it needs.

Micro heater fitted, I just need to wire in (hopefully using the old wiring) and plumb in to the coolant system.
I have been spending a fair bit of time tarting up my car trailer, so progress has been a bit slow with this, nearly there though.

Cheers Guys,
Bought a non-sunroof skin off rob_s which needs to be taken off the 'remaining' shell, and fitting to the car. I've also continued tidying the wiring loom and re-tapeing.
Progress has been slow due to lack of interest, and needing to fix my road bike.

The rear end had three coats of this - http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-paint/por-15-six-pack-rust-preventative-paint-kit.html two base coats, one top coat.
The engine bay had the same, then a coat of silver hammerite (sprayed) a balls up with on coat of hammered white hammerite (sprayed - looked sh*te) then two coats of Halfords Cheapo White Spray paint.
In hindsight, I should have lacquered it, but it's too late now!

There was a hell of a lot of man hours put it removing rust, old paint etc with a wire wheel in the drill, then degrease wash down etc.
There's a bit of welding to be done in the bay, but I'll patch that spray work in afterwards.

nope :P Trailer deck is 2/3rds done, need to build some ramps for the trailer, then get the interior of the saxo finished.

http://images59.fotki.com/v684/photos/7/476307/10622133/2013020415_36_01-vi.jpg
Bought a second shell that has less rot than the old one, just a little in the drivers rear arch.
I had to steal the doors, windows, sunroof and boot to make the second shell water tight as it will be living outside for a while.
http://images51.fotki.com/v1561/photos/7/476307/10622133/2013020911_06_13-vi.jpg
Cage plates have been welded in to the new shell too now, but require a little finishing as we ran out of wire (and I had a monster hangover)
Everything else has been gutted from the engine bay and inside ready for a lick of paint.

Engine bay has been painted, and the shell is going to BeanieSport on Friday for final cage fitting, roof panel swap, sill stands fitting, harness plates and some rust patches fixing.
Then it's back home for engine & suspension swap, and fit the brakes. Then back down Beanie for seat rails and sump guard mounting ...

So, I went to collect the car from BeanieSport the weekend before last, and have my seat rails fitted whilst there.
Turned up to be greeted by this view :fcuk:
https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/13247_486179561454283_1653621034_n.jpg
A quick walk round the car to look at the work carried out then straight on to seat rail fitting.
We didn't get any progress photos during the fitting, but we basically got the seat in the car on a couple of haynes manuals, checked the height and rake against the pedals / steering wheel. Chris marked when the seat went, and then it was on to cutting the rails to fit between the tunnel and sill. Weld the spreader plates to the rails, clean up the shell and weld the mounting points to the rails, and then weld the rails in to the car. Repeat for the rear rail, and then repeat for the passenger side.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/575808_487265338012372_178020994_n.jpg
Time was getting on, so we left the trailer at the unit Saturday night, Chris had a little bit of work to finish of which couldn't be done until the seat rails were fitted and I had a Half Marathon to run Sunday morning.
We turned up on Sunday early afternoon, and Chris and Moo had got the car loaded on the trailer for me, and all the parts ready to be loaded in to the Passat.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/481700_487265548012351_1704935968_n.jpg
Strapped it down, loaded the boot of the car up, and off we came home. A quick spray of acid etch when we got home, and that was that.
I'd just like to say BeanieSport have been great, nothing too much hassle, friendly service and down to earth guys. I'll certainly be back for a loom off Moo at some point in the future.

It was always the intention on giving the interior a lick of paint, so, this Saturday started with chipping off that god damned tar paper off the footwells! followed by a degrease / tar removal with some white spirit. Last but not least, and lick of paint.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/581875_10152819348855464_651123566_n.jpg
Then, you guessed it, time to do the same with the rear arches. I'd already got rid of the worse of the tar paper and felt, so the majority of the time was spent cleaning the residue with white spirit. Just needs a second coat.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/383510_10152822185160464_2093630983_n.jpg
And, lastly to bring us up to date. I took my Dad with me to BeanieSport to pick the car up as he wanted to get out the house, the guys let him look round the cars whilst we fitted the seat rails, unfortunately my Dad then said, 'Oh, the inside of the cars look better with the roll cage the same colour as the inside' ... you like it so much, you do it then, so he did :D
(it's had a second coat since these photos)
https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/969286_10152822185670464_404304174_n.jpg

We should hopefully get the second coat on the interior at the end of the week, and then it's roll cage fitting time!

Cheers :D Should hopefully get the cage fitted back in this weekend, then it's just a simple case (famous last words) of hooking the engine out of car one, and in to car 2, and swapping the suspension, steering and tank over at the same time.

It's all in bar needing the sleeves tightening up, then it all needs a lick of paint.
I've found a rust hole in the back drivers side arch (pictures to follow) so the next task is to strip back all the under seal, check there is no more rust and give the arches a lick of paint (no under seal going back on.) Then it's engine swap time ...

That's looking really sharp!
Getting that cage to bolt in is not an easy task is it lol
Annoying about the rust, any news on how bad it is!
What colour are you going inside?
I can't get the passenger side bolt in the B pillar, not a fucking chance, even though we got it in in the workshop! The drivers side only just went in, hopefully this will be ok with the Scruts.
This is final colour, it's all had a final coat and is now baking off outside the house in the sun.
Next task is clean out the arches to see the extent of the rust, hopefully there will be just the one patch, which is the same side as the repaired side.

After finding more rust than I wanted in the arches, we decided to take all the under seal off the floor of the car too. So I bought a Rotisserie jig, and set it up outside the house! LOL

Half a days cleaning and a coat of Red Oxide
http://images16.fotki.com/v377/photos/7/476307/10622133/IMAG0007-vi.jpg
The car has now had two full coats of Red Oxide, one coat of undercoat and a coat of top. Just another top coat in the morning, then I can start to put it back together :D

Haha that's awesome! It's amazing how much rust is hidden by the underseal isn't it!

A bit of a rush today to get the last top coat on due to the weather changing for the worse. It's all coated now and the jig is packed away but I didn't get chance to get a photo as I had to get the doors and boot back on. I'll try and get a photo tomorrow.
Now it's time to start putting it all back together ...

Thankfully, all the rust revealed on the floor was only surface rust which we could treat and paint over. The two rear arches had holes in, and the drivers side arch was a right mess, didn't get any photos of that though.

The calipers are currently back off and being given a lick of paint, and both the engine and interior loom are in bits being stripped of all redundant wiring, and the ECU & fuse boxes being re-located inside the car.
I'll try and get a few more pictures in the week.

Spent the day the other week getting the car on the trailer and in to the garage. This meant I had to have a sort out of all the crap in the car, resulting in a trip to the tip.
So with the car on the trailer in the garage, this means I can drag it home and work on it outside the house.
Had it home last week and did this with the help of my dad.

Sill stands were purchased from Peter Lloyd Rallying, and fitted by BeanieSport in with all my other work done, so couldn't say how much the fitting was on it's own.
The Roll over jig is from Handling Solutions (http://www.rolloverjigs.com/)

So decided on the direction and class I want to build this too (better late than never) Rally First 1.6. Basically, standard 1600 class with basic safety mod's, so I'm putting back wiring that I've previously cut out :panic: simplest way to obviously put a full new loom in.
Whilst I'm waiting for various bits to turn up, I've decided to make a start on painting. No expensive spray jobs here, Inspired by land rover owners, and the fact it doesn't need to be 'mint', I'm going to be hand painting this.
Here's the test wing to see what the results will look like
http://images42.fotki.com/v1581/photos/7/476307/10622133/2014102615_19_07-vi.jpg
It's orange peel-ey, but it's a rally car so doesn't need to be mint. Well I'm happy with the result, and we will possibly give it a wet sand to improved the final finish anyway.
