well how the hell did this happen well! it happened as the 1.1 106 shat it's head gasket in the biggest way possible going to work a month ago thats how! So sold that for a bit more than scrap money sold turbo kit off the saxo put a few hundred in the bank and then got this with what was left over

Del Slow ESi, totally standard apart from an amazon rain forest spec wooden steering wheel. Plenty to sort out on it mainly bodywork.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/Sadako_Yamamura/Samba%20Pea/front.jpg

First impression was it drove ok handling was fine engine however was very slow and awful :( d16z6 sohc 16v vtec is like a misfire tbh BUT however I found out why it felt slower than what it should of been innards of centre section and back box breaking up blocking the system resulting in this

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/Sadako_Yamamura/Samba%20Pea/tomuchvtec.jpg

yes thats right the backbox exploded like a right bastard was going muchg better after mind you! oh well so yes thats the del slow plans well there are a few

Team Del Sol!!

It looks alright, get a B16 slapped in it, so i can find out from you how hard it is to get one in!

Team Del Sol!!

It looks alright, get a B16 slapped in it, so i can find out from you how hard it is to get one in!

B swap is

engine & loom ( get loom and lambda to)
box
shafts
all engine B series mounts plus rear l bracket

The Esi ecu p28 you can get socketed and chipped to run a B16 map BUT to put this into perspective to do a B16 swap you are talking 350-500 for a decent engine anything cheaper you are looking at missing bits or needing the usual big service stuff. Box is anywhere from 150-300 depending what you get, the engine mounts if you can get all standard ones under 80 and your doing well but looking around 100 shafts pennies.

For the cost of doing a B16 swap properly with all bits looking around 800 ish another thing to think of is that will be cheaper to do a b18 swap not from a dc2 but from a civic 1.8 vti or aerodeck if you pick up a whole car for around 6/700 then you can pretty much use everything off it then get the shell scrapped. For the price unless you love your car and its in mint condition then easier in this case to get a VTi or sir to start with.

Or go boost

smiith
29th April 2012, 20:51
Thats the thing, the car has just clicked 100k, and the whole thing was undersealed at 22k.. So its in mint condition underneath, the back arch has a few speckles, but literally 50 quid worth of spend in the body shop to get it to mint..

Thats whats swaying me to put an engine in this, the fact that its so well looked after.. If it happens it will be a winter job.. But thats a good idea, to get a full car, steal the engine then sell on, or part it out!

How awesome did it sound when the back box exploded?

Sophia_Bush
29th April 2012, 21:07
Smith you got a good un then :D but enigne swap save around 1k do it after summer then happy days but just enjoy for now.

Tom when the backbox exploded I did think something else killed itself it was that loud of a bang! The car behind swerved all over the shop avoiding shrapnel being ejected!, put car in neutral to see if anything engine or box related nope so carried on home lol

blackie_2k5

Bet it was like mario kart racing, dropping bombs all over etc :D

anyway start of this thread proper from 6 weeks ago >>

Hello been after one for a while did want a vti or sir but usual problem of a good ones at a decent price being to far away so by the time travelling cost added on would of been over budget :( and anything close enough was either over priced for what it was / a big bucket. Did nearly get a red VTi from stoke but backed out as the guy had dropped price so much within 2 weeks of it being for sale plus it had short tax and test on it so ended up with this beauty :o

Bog standard apart from the horrid steering wheel K reg Samba Green 1.6 ESi mot october and fresh 6 months tax first impression are that it drives well and stops ok, d16z6 isn't really that fast but is reasonable once you get it going. Bodywork is ok but usual rust bits need sorting got a guy going to do both sides with new panels for me there is/was a bit around the windscreen to but I sanded all that away and treated it with kurust for now will get the filler out next weekend and do bit more sanding on it.

Few pics of it so far

Future plans are sort bodywork out first, then get it lowered will also do the usual breathing mods like 4 branch, exhaust and induction to help the baby d16 along, within next few weeks going to give it a good service of oil, oil filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, new rocker cover, bolts and gasket

Unsure on the wheels again it's something I will look into but 100% getting rid of the amazaon rain forest tree stump that calls itself a steering wheel atm

Sophia_Bush

as stated in one of of the posts above this happened sat 21-04>>

Since I got the car I never felt it was that fast for what it is and I found out tonight why to some sort of amusement just picked my mum up from work coming off a round about just getting into vtec in 3rd and then an almighty sonic boom from the rear of the car! Was thinking ah crap I've killed it so dipped clutch to see if it cut out nope electrics etc still ok so carried on home albeit slightly louder you can now see where this is going lol

Get home look under car and the whole side of the exhaust is missing looks like after 155k the wadding has had enough and decided to part ways for good after slowly blocking the system and engine from exhaling properly, mind you after that the car went much much better since it was exhaling as it should of done goes as well as I thought it should of just sounds like a tank now anyway sorry to bore you with this no picture update but looks like I'll be getting a manifold and full system a bit sooner now

few pics of what happened last night Sunday 22-04 as detailed above, also got some service bits for the car which ill do in next week or so. Also going to order 4 branch and decat for this week after next then fit it with new exhaust system which is to be en route next week, there are a few more things I am looking into doing like rear spoiler, lowering and new wheels but these will come after bodywork is sorted and the horrible wooden thing that calls itself a steering wheel is gone.

Other than that its the usual small things to tidy interior up and stop leaks

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/Sadako_Yamamura/Samba%20Pea/drs.jpg

06-05 = The exhaust system came from skitz who kindly delivered in person the other week, got it fitted today during taking the skirts off and starting sill/rear arch repairs. Now the rust looks bad in pics but after poking around and getting rid of all the flakey bits it ain't that bad everything has been been kurusted and zinc primered now :D So pics below

new system with vti cat

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/Sadako_Yamamura/Samba%20Pea/driverside.jpg

yes all the crap under the car used to be part of it  but as said looks worse than it is in them pics but as mentioned I've beat both sides with a hammer and all the soft rotten bits are gone what's left is nice solid metal thats been treated, had a good day all in new metal in shape already to be welded next week :)

I'll get the spoiler on and service stuff done next weekend poss fit manifold if I sort one during the week :)

Sophia_Bush
27th May 2012, 16:59
13-05 =

today mate came over again and cut stuff out as said previously looks worse than it is but everything is solid as I've tapped it with a hammer a few times. Started with the driver side cutting the usual lower panel bit out and then the bit by the bumper clip/mount

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/Sadako_Yamamura/Samba%20Pea/cut.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/Sadako_Yamamura/Samba%20Pea/bracket.jpg

next sunday we'll be doing the passenger side, otherwise it's plans on as usual

20-05 = Pictueless update but the otherside got the quarter panel and bumper mount cut out same as the above new metal for both parts shapped up and ready to go also got a nice 4 branch to fit as well

24-05 =

Quite happy I managed to adjust the handbrake today instead of it being high and not doing anything till the top it actually does something now in half the pull distance few more pics

tell me about it! Can't wait till all the bodywork is sorted as I can waxoil all the underside arches and sills then, not done anything with the slab of round wood yet haha guess sorting the body and getting other bits done is taking priority :)

Other rusted cut out side

and finally today

Driver side mostly done now, just need a small plate welding in behind the quarter panel closest to the wheel then I can filler it over primer n paint same with the bumper mount this will get done next sunday along with the same on passenger side.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/Sadako_Yamamura/Samba%20Pea/bumpermount.jpg

Passenger side got the welding finished on it today :) both sides sprayed with zinc primer after a sand down, started filler on passenger side bumper mount bit but rest of fillering will be done during the week, also waxoiled under the arches where the welding has been done. I know I keep banging on about it but I will get the service stuff done soon but going to fit the new rocker cover, gasket and bolts first then after that I will fit the manifold.

Still waiting on the ITR suspension, Spoon N1 to show then will fit them to anyway few pics

Its looking good, jealous of the spoon! I have a few little bubbles of rust coming on one rear arch, but i think its just surface, so im going to get a bloke i know to sand it back down, see what the damage is and sort it!

Mine sounds awesome with the full system, i bet with the spoon on, yours will be drool worthy in vtec!

Yeah mine didn't look bad but it was all filler and crap behind there once I get some paint on it (maybe colour change) whole thing will look better undecided on the colour mind you. Well I got the spoon mainly to replace the horrendous jap cannon that is on there right now should make my ears bleed less lol well vtec kicks in around 4800rpm supposedly? seems to go a bit faster then but in terms of speed prob around a normal VTS/GTi really will have to see if I add a snail to the induction system.

Car does go better now and sounds utterly crazy with the spoon on can actually hear the crossover now to a degree :) Just case of be patient and do the rest of the jobs on the list happy days
