Does anyone know the correct name for the smaller front plates and any ideas where I can purchase them?
Thanks :)

Most places just use the term 'motor cycle plate'

Are they not the square ones though?

You can get small single row motorcycle plates, not all are square

Mine are perfectly legal check halfords website.
Got the approval cod on the bottom. And all the spacings are within the legal limits too

after

Still legal technically as it was just blank plastic either side, so letters, spacing, font size etc are all legal.

letters need to be a certain size and font and it needs to a have an 11mm border of white/ yellow all around the lettters.
if you have a reg with less digits than standered then yes you can run a smaller plate, i only have 5 digits on mine and get a set of plates made up from craigs plates not long ago!
they dont have the bs number on the bottom or the makers name, but if the car was registered prior to a certain date those details arnt required anyway!!

ive only been stopped once in the last year ive had this plate, and the policeman was looking right at the plate while he was talking to me but didnt even mention them which i found very odd

I had a smaller plate and a smaller font on the legacy, I had a single line plate where it should have had a square Jap plate, had the car about 5 years, never had any bother

this tbh.
they will be fine for ages then suddenly may just decide to clamp down on stuff like that.
