I was thinking about getting some bucket seats for my vtr does anyone know if it will affect the airbags goin off in the event of an accident as this is what I've heard?

Well you'd be unplugging the seat belt pre-tensioners when fitting your buckets, so the airbag light would come on, thus affecting the system working. You could wire in a resistor to each side so the system measures the correct resistance, and in theory would work properly. Saying that a lot of saxo airbags don't even go off when all appears fine...

or just velcro / cable tie the seat belt buckle under the bucket seat ;-)

could you just use a standard seatbelt but just install a bucket seat? or does the factory seat trigger some type senser?

If you use standard seatbelt you'd need some way of mounting the buckle to your bucket subframes, ie welding it to it. Also prob not enough room if you're using fixed buckets, reclining ones maybe.
