Hello.
Some of you may remember I had a Posi Blue Furio which I sadly wrote off around 5 weeks ago. I have finally managed to get myself another car, but decided to take the chance to try something different. My interests are still there in French cars, but for now I shall be rollin' in a German wagon!
My previous thread for anyone interested! - http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=403528&highlight=Posi+Blue+Furio
And heres how my Saxo looked in its final stages before the crash!

But anyhow, on to the Polo!
Spec:
Volkswagen Polo 1.4 8v 60bhp Match
76000 Miles
FSH
All old MOTS
Electric Windows
Electric Sunroof
Electrically Adjustable Mirrors
Colour Coded Bumpstrips
I got it for slightly below what similar ones were going for due to a couple bodywork issues. Mainly these are abit of damage on the front bumper and 2 dents/creases in the bootlid. The rear bumper also requires a respray as it looks like someone as tried to touch it up with a rattle can!
Some pictures from today, gave it a quick clean and clayed it ready for a polish and wax tomorrow.

PLANS!
-- Source a bootlid without dents
-- Coilovers (3 weeks time)
-- Wheels 13 or 14" and at least 8j rears. (Next month or two) Maybe the banded steel route that I never got to go down with the saxo.
-- Professional Respray on front and rear bumpers, smoothing the front bumper.
-- Fit my headunit.
-- Debadge rear, Dewiper, Little Aerial, Aero Wipers, SMD LED's for interior + sidelights + New Reg Plates (maybe pressed)
-- Tidy up the paintwork more, maybe get it mopped.
-- Maybe a GTI splitter!
Should have a couple little updates Monday, then it will be quiet until coilover time! :)

Most of it is tidy, but the front and rear bumpers are pretty awful, going to look into getting them resprayed fairly soon I think!

THIS! when I had my coilovers on it was so stiff and the rattles were just a constant! Every bit of the car felt like it wanted to escape!
The Polo feels so much more substantial, little things like the way the seats are slightly bigger make all the difference, feels and is bigger in general! :)

Plans are mainly just lows and wheels, then some tidying up of the bumpers and a new bootlid. From there I'll just see what I fancy!

Small update - Spent most the weekend on the car. Polished it and Waxed it. The paintwork isnt too bad, and silver hides most blemishes anyway so its looking pretty tidy now!
This weekend I've
Washed, Clayed, Polished and Waxed it.
Debadged the rear "polo" badge.
Fitted "aero" wipers to the front.
De-wipered the rear using a solid grommet/bung that sits flush with the glass.
Fitted SMD LED lights in the rear plate lights, interior light and sidelights.
Tried fitting my headunit, but the adapters I got in the kit doesnt seem to fit my headunit :S
So need to hunt out a different adapter!
Picture time!

I wont be doing anything performance wise, if you read through the last 3 or 4 pages of my previous thread you will see the situation im in. This must be one of the worst 1.4 8v engines made in the 21st century, it's packing a massive 60 bhp! :A:

The fronts are 501 fitment, so will fit in a saxo. They are some of the brighest white ones you can buy I think. :)
The rear plate lights are some other fitment that wont fit a saxo.

The car is now all tidied up, cleaned thoroughly and ready for some proper mods.
Just browsing the Polo forums figuring out which coilovers are best to go for.
Once its low I'll remove the wheel trims and refurb the steels either white or silver as a temporary look until I can afford some wheels.
Heres some pictures of how its looking now.

Perhaps, I'm on the hunt for some 13" or 14" banded steels at the moment, all I can find is 15" which is too big imo!
I may be buying some 14" G60 steels, which I like the look of, so thats also an option :)

I found on the polo (which clearly had not been properly cleaned in its life with 2 previous lady owners), that the claybar has a massive effect!
Does take some time but around the lower half of the car it makes a big difference.

Finally got my coilovers on, wound them down so its sitting nice, got about 25 threads left on the front and 5 left on the rear. I was surprised at how low the fronts can go and I've read that you need a chassis notch to have them down all the way. Got a couple quick pictures today but I'll try to get some better ones tonight. Went and got the banded steels earlier than expected. A 120 mile round trip and here they are! 165/55/13 tyres on 7.5j fronts and 8j rears. They make the car sit a fair bit lower than before. I now catch on bumps in the road I really never had to look out for before. The rear could do with being 10mm lower, will look into that next weekend. Might have to raise the front if I keep catching on the road.
The blue is growing on me tbh! May find out what the paint code is and redo them like this!

Went Lakeside to some drift event at essex raceway, watched it for a couple hours and then set off home at about 11pm. As I come out the exit onto the roundabout instantly tail gated by a police car, tail gated me for 3 roundabouts and about 1 mile and then pulled me over.
They said that the rear wheels are illegal due to too much poke. I said I thought the law was that the tread must be under the arches (which it obviously is). He said he isn't a wheel expert but will radio one. So 10 minutes later the "wheel expert" turns up, shines his torch at the wheels for about 10 seconds, declares them as illegal, unsafe and begins quite loudly and rudely questioning me on why I fit these wheels. They then ask all the usual details, insurance etc.
The problem then comes when they ask if all mods are declared as I put the wheels on that afternoon and literally put them on and went straight to pick up my friends. So hadn't declared them. SO now he says he will be giving me 7 days to give in my insurance certificate to local police station and notifying insurers etc. He said he will ring them and if they say they didn't know I had the wheels on that night then technically I was driving uninsured etc.
So, a shit night. I haven't really got a leg to stand on due to not declaring them before going out :/
But I'm annoyed at them saying they are illegal, i ask them why and they pretty much ignore me and change the subject. I was pretty certain I was correct that the tread must be under the arches.
Rant Over
Edit: They said they had seen me previously that night on the M25 (on my way there) but it was too dangerous to pull me, that means they were waiting for me for over 2 hours! While hundreds of chavs are driving like twats all over the place. They pick me, driving at like 30mph, everywhere, for fear of my sump lol

Yeh not too bad. The battles at the end are pretty cool. A chase car follows a lead car and has too imitate their line round the track without falling too far behind. Then they switch to both of them are trying massive angles or going seriously wide up near the barriers to try to win :)

Cheers man, In the process of refurbing them at the moment, not sure on a colour yet though.
And yeh Jage 14's were what I was looking for, but in similar widths they seem to go for 4-500 with good tyres and I could get Schmidt Modernlines for that so settled with the 13's for now!
I'm going to have to raise the front 10mm or so when I put them back on so I don't destroy my cat within a week or two. Wheels should be back on in a few weeks once I've made them look pretty ;)

The wheels are just steels sprayed a different colour. You could of just said to the police they were standard wheels sprayed, srs have to notify the insurers of steelies. Just ring the insurance put it on your policy then print your policy off with all the details. With the police ringing the insurance to check the policy is actually illegal due to the data protection act. It could be anyone ringing to ask the policy details at the end of the day they cannot check the officer or there identification.

Went to USC today, saw this...anyone know them?
http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff378/brooksie90/IMG_0706.jpg
Also, have sorted out a swap of my banded steels in primer, for a set of Schmidt Mordern Lines!
Cheeky teaser picture of them being trialled today. I'll be getting them next Saturday, buying one new tyre and refurbing the lips slightly, then getting them on. Once these 195/45 tyres run down I will change to 185/45 hopefully, and roll the arches so I can achieve more lows.

Finally got the Scmidts on. 3 test drives and 3 coilover adjustments later I'm sitting like a 4x4. Can't get any lower without constant sidewall scrubbing on the front and with 1 person in the back within half a mile You could smell the burning rubber and it was all stuck to my arch!
So plans are now to get arches rolled and perhaps camber the rear so I can go lower front and back. Also change to 185/45's eventually. So anyone know any places good for arch rolling? :)

You can get some bargains with the 6n model. Generally the 6n2's are still quite expensive!
If you can afford a 6n2 gti get one, the spec on them is pretty good.

Thank you mate, few bargains around certainly, just don't want a shed.
Have to admit, the rear of the 6n2 is much nicer, doesn't require much to look really nice.
Wouldn't be able to get insured on a gti though sadly, only 17. Mainly looking into the 1.4's.

Have to admit, the rear of the 6n2 is much nicer, doesn't require much to look really nice.
Wouldn't be able to get insured on a gti though sadly, only 17. Mainly looking into the 1.4's.
Well if you can get a 1.4 16v then it's worth the extra on the insurance compared to the 1.4 8v. My 1.4 8v is 60bhp...pretty damn slow. I think the interiors of the 6n2's are a worthwhile reason to go for one, compared to a 6n they are so much more modern!

I'm gonna book in with a local bodyshop for January sometime for drivers door and rear bumper resprayed, as well as having the front bumper resprayed. I'm thinking of having the plate recess in the bumpstrip smoothed out, so it looks like this:

The turbos need to come off soon, got stuck behind a gritting lorry the other night so it's definitely time to get them off!
Set about refurbing the steels to have something to run on for winter. Couple friends convinced me to try a baby blue kind of colour, but it looked fucking grim...
http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff378/brooksie90/IMG_0824.jpg
And it looked nothing like it suggested it would...
http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff378/brooksie90/IMG_0825.jpg
So I used silver instead, they still need another coat and then lacquer. Also used the time between the coats drying too polish the wheels a bit.

Lowered it a bit, rear sits how I want it but the front can still come down more, however these wheels are coming off in a week so I'll sort the ride height properly when they go back on in spring.

I've thought about it, but I can afford to go another 10-15mm at the front if I leave them as they are. And for me personally the extra lows are more important! :)

I've been looking into de-tango'ing them, something on my list for next show season!
And yeh CHIP, plan for next year is a chassis notch plus about another 20mm lower on the front. Then a 10mm spacing if arches allow.

You've made me a bit said Josh :(
Never been a massive fan of completely smoothed bumpers, the front looks good, I much prefer the look of the full euro rub strip with smooth plate recess though. Also the rear looks a bit odd, maybe when the wheels are back on it will all come together nicely.
Also where about's are you going to be running the plate? People often smooth their front bumper then clutter it all back up again with the plate slapped in the grille lol.
On another note, nice lot of cleaning gear! I plan on stacking mine back up when I get the new vehicle.
Hopefully none of that sounded too harsh, you know I love you really Josh! You deserve my honest opinion lol, and i'm sure it'll all come together when you've got it as low as you want it with the turbos back on!

I agree it looks weird at the moment Grant! But reserve your final judgement till i've got it sitting properly, and got the wheels on (on that note, I ordered some eibach camber shims for the rear tonight)
Without the rubstrip on the rear I think it makes it look fatter. Which without wide wheels looks silly!
And yeh, for now the plate will have to stay on the grill apart from cleaning/photo times and shows. Essex traffic police love making themselves look busy and I'll get pulled all the time!
I'm gonna get the wheels on this weekend, and get it lower for some proper photos. :)
