Hey all!

Some people may know me, and my cars! If not, here a brief history!

My 106 Gti-iTB - Miss it lots!

Well i sold that about 5 months ago, and bought this

Then got bored of the silly low & sold it few weekends ago.


So the new project was collected after a 315 Mile round trip!

'92 1.6 Import
Black, with black interior & roof
Pretty Much standard bar a horrid gear knob & a JVC headunit.
Apparently has RX8 Bose speakers in the door & JVC speakers in the seats
Optional Real spoiler? Not my taste & will be gone
Nardi Wooden Wheel

- Dished Splits - only seen once, won't be revealed till done. But some teasers to follow
- Front plate removed & smoothed
- Rear spoiler removed & replaced with a ducktail spoiler smoothed in
- Rear panel De-badged & painted satin black
- Gold front & Rear tow eyes
- Momo Team to replace Nardi
- New Seats - not 100% on what yet. But will be red
- New Gear-knob - again, not sure on what
- Revlimiter Dials
- Chrome/Polished mirrors
- Custom exhaust - different tip but want rasp
- New air filter
- Jap show plate!
- S2000 Start button
- Remove Front & rear fogs - aftermarket things
- Lazy eye kit

Then it stopped raining enought to get outside & clean it, check underneath and in the arches!

First of all, these fell off the front

Yep, lost the front fogs, didn't enjoy them personally and didn't seem to work, so they came off!

Then tried to loose the front plate, but te bracket was being silly and not budging! So left that!


Since getting her home i've been meaning to take a look under and in the arches to check things out, and see if the struts look lowered, as the car seems to be.


Greeted with very rust struts & springs, but seem to be green......

Cheap/Ghetto Update

Been looking into induction kits, filters etc and what the best option is and discovered that alot of people recommend a K&N panel filter & drilled airbox. So today, i set about sorting it!

Feels wrong doing it, but still picked up the Drill!

Next was to look into the CAI i mentioned above, so sourced some hoseing from a friend for free! Win!

Routed it from the intake of airbox, and checked sizings out. Looks like it will work! Juust need to get a large drill bit and start some cutting! But for the time being i left it in & routed it facing some cold air, rather than the wing like the OEM one!

Lastly, set about looking into my shite bonnet alignment. Everytime i shut it, it rested open like so:

thats not in the latch! Worked out the rubber strip/weather strip seem to be causing the bonnet from not shutting properly.

Bad Update

Soo.......

How a bad discovery/news today!

Got a tape measure out to do some other work, saw my wheels & thought f**k it, lets check! Got the measure out and checked my 8 1/2 i have dry built! Yep 8 1/2 it is. Wait, nope thats edge to edge, not bead to bead! :( So turns out i have 8's & i assume 7's!

Not a happy bunny. I would of paid less had i know! Grr :thumbdown:

So now looking about for new dishes. Looking at 3'' lips to make 9''s! Will be 15x8 on the front & 15x9 on the rear! Not really sure on et. Will work that out later!

Also, in other news. Coilovers have been ordered! :D

When i bought the car, it came with a ugly JVC stereo, with just CD - which was rubbish, as all my music is on iPod!

So, recently talking to a college, he offered me a sony for £20 snapped his arm off. Aux in from the front, and is plain black! Bit of a ocd when it comes to tidy/single colour interiors!

Few updates coming!

Have a spending spree today! Will all be delievered this week! :D

First and major one is i got this off ebay today:

Finally got me a noise maker! Its been faaaaaaaaar too quite for my liking! Will be fitted tomorrow! And in a month or so i will be changing the tip.

Ordered:

- Springs for lows
- Wipers, New fog light switch
- Gear & Handbrake Gaitors
- DaveM Window switches & Hazard switches - will be tinkered with when i get em
- More Paint for wheels!

So the fitting list is getting longer! And the room under my bed is shrinking!

Got it fitted!

So today i set about tyring to fit the exhaust.

First try i was defeated by the first bolt on the cat. :x

This resulted in a trip to B&Q to get some pentrating oil, ended up only getting wd-40. So soaked offending bolts in Wd, let them soak in and got out the 'persuader' and thankfully they came loose with no snapping! Win! :)

Next tried to get the 1 piece system out. What a pig! Had to undo the rear brace! Just as that came loose, i had to hide in here

the Heavens OPENED! so hid in the car for 10 mins! :(

it stopped for a second, went back out and succeded! But, after a few mins it started raining but battled through!

What brace you got on the back to need to take it off to get the zorst out? I got mine out easily enough with the OEM 1.8 bracing, and I got my other one in with it on too.


What tip you going to? Slash cut FTW.

Erm it was just a flat brace under the exhaust. It was mainly as I didn't have the car very high.

Loving the exhaust! Waiting for a De-cat, which should give me the sound i want!

First new Wipers, no pics as its not exciting. Just Aero ones.

Really complements the steering wheel, and have decided against a new gear knob, love the OEM one. Suits it all well.

Get a heavier knob and you'll notice the shift is a lot nicer, I swapped back to my OEM Nardi one at one point and hated it.


On that note, I happen to have a MOMO one that looks similar to your OEM one, if you want to see what I mean. ;)



Oh, and my shift boots need replacing too, they're not cheap. :(

Will get ya one, hasn't chipped in the past year or so, but the finish wasn't perfect when I did it either, hence why it needs spraying again ideally. Suppose you could always get it powder coated for cheap if it was of enough concern. ;)

The lips are polished. The faces & Center caps have been/are being painted BBS gold. Got the Gold bolts to go on too, and a gold center cap bolt!

Tyres are going to be 195/45 on the 9 & 185/45 on the 8.

Got her in the air, rear first. Easier bit first. Ha.

Drivers side, easy. Up, bolts off, old susp off, coil on, boom. Done! Comparison in spring sizes.

MASSIVE BALL ACHE.

The captive nut came off its securing point. First issue, but got it off eventually. 2nd massive ball ache. The bolt wouldn't come out. Seems to been well and truly rusted in. :(

After about 2 hours of hitting, swearing, different tools. No luck. So gave up, went to the front.

Go to undo the bolt holding the shock on. SNAP. C***. Yep, snapped the nut off, not a massive issue, i had a useable bolt for the time. Oh, no wait. The bolt would not budge for shite. Yay!

So, i left it with my mate till this weeknd, but in the week he managed to get the other drivers side on!

That brings me to today.

Get to his, and then straight to a garage round the corner. Leave it with them, and later i get a call telling me the bolts are out, but to bring the new suspension. along. :s

Turns out they cut the bolts out. Will Get some pics tomorrow of the struts!

So got back and started playing with the height. Wound it down a decent amount. Sat quite high. Hmm, lower down. Same height. Balls. So chopped the bump stop in half.

Half be gone! Then wound it down some more. Took it out. Nice & low. Rough as feck. Off came the bump stops again.

Cut more off. But those are the ones on the car. 1/4 of the original size :D And you'll notice a wee bit blood. Had a slight mishap.

So now sits at this height. Springs need to settle, and still have 10 coils left to wind down on the front & 35 on the rear. Buts its too close to the Driveshaft.

Well small updates. Both good & bad.

So i got a text from the good Jamie Hale (wheel refurber) with this picture.

So, last saturday came. Sealant bought, nuts & washers are here! Lets do this.

Nope. Nuts are shit. :( Done up hand tight. Got out the torque wrench, set to the right setting. Once, twice, third time they span. Did this 5 times, took them out and was greated with this.

Player 6.0. The ONLY show ive been worried and excited about. But No, it wasn't going to plan as the OZ's weren't ready. :( Just as i thought it was looking shit, i made a stab in the dark and asked Liam (mx5Modsters) if I could borrow his wheels he has for sale. And he said yes! What a Gent! So late last nite, got them on. Changed the height and lost the arch liners! Yum. Suited it well, sat great & gave me the push to get the OZ's sorted properly.

Another Update. After getting fed up of getting into a wet seat i started to sort all the roof leaks.

Followed this picture in bolt tightening & turns out No. 2 & 5 were tight, rest were finger tight.

Update

So, had a large amount of updates recently!

Firstly, with Players looming (1 week away) I sent the car into my bodyshop to get front bumper, both rear quarters & the bootlid painted. Then once back, the rest got a quick machine polish. Pics below.

Second was some re-trimmed seats. I ordered a set of covers, turned up and i set about swapping them around after getting the car back Friday morning. 9 hours before leaving for Players.
