so guys, ive been thinking about getting a subaru impreza 2.0 (non turbo) as my next car... Just wondered if any of you have had any experience with them? also would like some opinions on them, their perfomance, their looks?
Anything will be appreciated !
Cheers

Non turbo scoobs are a cop out. There slow and its like driving round telling people your a cheapskate

Been in one, absolutely love the sound it makes but.. a none turbo is not so good on performance it's pretty damn slooooooow.

A non turbo is like a 1.4 saxo
Buying a non turbo is like stuffing socks in your pants. Eventually when it comes to the crucial moment everyone will know you were bluffing.

As said, a Subaru is a pretty big and heavy car. a N/A 2.0 just isn't enough.
Don't the none turbo's have drum brakes on the back?

Thanks for the replies guys.. what would you guys recommend? on a budget of around 1500.. want some decent performance and got the looks too :)
I would get a 2.0 Turbo'd scoob but i cant insure it... seriously been on all the comparison sites and they have all said they cant even return ONE quote... i would happily pay 450 a month for one (i earn quite a bit) but they cant return anything :wall: but a 2.0 non turbo i can insure for 200 a month... so an added turbo means they wont insure me at all.. pretty weird to be honest.
Any cars you can recommend?
for 1500 you are better off getting a 172 or if the arse has fallen out of the homo market a type R civic.
2.0 engine in something that doesn't weigh as much as a tank and also doesn't look council estate like the mk1 pubaru.

Hmm like the idea of a type r civic tbh, are they in my price range then? and was thinking of a vtr but thought i could get better performance for my money? Thanks for the reply mate

If you earn a fair bit, wait a while and save up. a few months of saving the £450 you're willing to spend on insurance should give you 1 or 2 extra grand to spend on a motor.
No point buying a sporty car for £1.5k. the majority will be shitters for that kinda money.

vtr... better performance for 1500 - VTS.

first off the non turbo is about 115 brake! or shite in other words your actually best off getting a toyota starlet gt turbo can get one for around 1500 mark and theyre quick as fook as well as being cheap being a 1.3
the good thing about them is that scooby bits can be added and most are hitting 150+ brake

think thats the route im heading, either that or a 106 gti.. always had love for the saxo's though
Is there any difference in performance between the gti and vts? virtually the same car i thought
Ashleyp
17th May 2012, 17:53
GTi is quicker mate.
You'll be gutted 3 or 4 months down the line when you realised you could have a nice car rather than a 106 though ;)
burtoni
17th May 2012, 17:56
vts and gti are the same i went for the vts because i like the look of a saxo rather than a 106

Bakerman92
17th May 2012, 17:59
My mate has an audi a3 1.8 turbo... thats pretty quick to be fair, remapped etc.. are they quicker than a GTi?
burtoni
17th May 2012, 18:00
ummm more power but heavyer so it would be the classic power to weight
Ashleyp
17th May 2012, 18:02
by saving up a bit more, you get a whole new range of motors to select from
E36 328
E34 535
E46 330
E39's
Civic EP3
Integra DC2
Clio 1*2
MX5 of some description probably
Jag XJR
you can probably get an older S2000 for that these days
probably loads more too!

Just get a GTI or a VTS and start building it up when you can afford it.
Even with breathing mods it will d1ck all over a 2.0 Non-Turbo Subaru. With some decent cams and a remap on top of that it would slaughter it. Will be much more fun on twisty rural roads too.
burtoni
17th May 2012, 18:03
actually a s2000 would be nice as fook! and you can get one for around 300-ish

Oh and ive made my mind up... gonna go with a GTi or a VTS
Cheers guys

I quite tempted by one! Girl at work has just got one and it looks really smart.
Thinking of taking the teg off the road for the winter and getting a saab daily drive.
Bakerman92
17th May 2012, 18:17
Yeah im quite surprised! didnt even think about saab's tbh.. never pay any attention to them, but that does look very smart indeed!
Would be a good decision imo mate
There are only 2 advantages of a non-turbo scooby.
1) They are 4WD so their all-weather ability is pretty respectable
2) They're generally pretty reliable and tough mechanically.
Otherwise they're a bit naff. If you want something sporty then go for a VTS/GTi or if your budget stretches then go for a 172/EP3 for a better hot hatch.
Want to try something else? Golf VR6, sounds awesome with that howling V6.
