View Full Version : New shape corsa Sri? Win??!

I'm going to look at a corsa Sri the morro. Need a more reliable car for work. It's an 11 plate, looks pretty nifty I think. Subtle but smart. The limited edition corsa is just way too overpriced at 13.5k or something. Here's a cheeky pic of it:

Opinions welcome :)

Best shape in my opinion. Went to look at a 1.2 one of the white ones with black wheels not so long ago but didn't like the "Wish I was a vxr" look to them.

Not bad but for that price a would much rather have the corsa vxr !!!

I really don't get why people spend so much on shit cars like a corsa just because they're new. Get something proper with that sort of money and if you choose wisely will be just as reliable as the corsa. Hate how many people spend so much money on shit cars! Instead of 12k on a corsa spend 8k on an evo and the rest for trackdays and maintenance! Insurance dependant obviously.

Can't stand corsas. Can't stand new cars really. As others have said - why spend so much on a lifeless, dull corsa when you could get an amazing car second hand?

Or are you getting ripped off on finance instead?

Fish333
18th May 2012, 19:41
8k second hand for this 1 year old Sri is not bad at all in my books , and 400 to insure for a year reliability couldn't come cheaper. Bought my saxo at the start of the year for 900, already spent 500ish or more repairing, it's only may! 1300 on a car barely kept on the road in 5 month? Payments on a new car wouldn't be this much this far into the year....

Buy something decent, Audi A4, S3 etc. You wont need to fork out for maintenance then. and you'll have something to be proud of.

Carl-h
18th May 2012, 19:43
And another thing that winds me up is people who think that they're car is better than someone else's because it's newer! They all use the excuse that newer cars are more reliable and efficient so spending 12k plus 5k finance on top all sounds reasonable. They pay off the finance after how many years, sell the car and get another on finance! Really winds me up. I very rarely see a car that has been bought because the bloke driving it is an enthusiast. Everyone seems to be I retested in keeping up with the Jones' or finding the cheapest car to run on a spreadsheet.

My friends have new cars, they're massively more unreliable than my 22 year old cars :)

I think they're the smartest looking Corsas... But it's a lot of money for a Corsa. Just buy something older and nicer.

Spend the money on a s3 or a3 s-line, much better all round.

Usually, people who say they hate or dislike new cars is usually just because they cant afford them - funny that (No, I dont have one, my car is 06 but would buy one if I could afford it!)

True, if it was me spending that money I wouldn't take that either, but for what the OP wants its miles better than the corsa.

Personally I'd either get an Audi RS4 B5, E39 M5 or a 450bhp Evo 8 or similar. But thats just me lol.

Seems like a lot of money for not a very good car, so common now aswell especially the 'limited edition' which doesn't seem very limited lol, also it seems like you've made your mind up already.

Your right, I can't afford to buy a brand new car, but I could easily finance something very nice (I tend to have 5-600 spare every 4 weeks) if I wanted to waste my money. I'd rather have something older (and much more fun) that is mine rather than a finance companies.

I've got nothing against new cars at all and I'm glad there are people stupid enough to buy them (saves me money when I buy second hand) but I hate all the brand new shit cars that I see that have been bought because they are literally the cheapest car on the market or because it's the best on fuel, even though the person driving it does 20 miles a week. There was a massive increase in shit cheap cars when the scrapage scheme arose.

no, its because you get people who assume there car is better just becuase it has a newer number plate. I dont understand what would possess anyone in spending that much money on a dull, boring, common, slow corsa, just becuase it has a new number plate. Whats wrong with a 2nd hand car? can pick a corsa vxr for that much!

you can buy something a million times better than an ugly corsa for that price tag, such as an e46 bmw 3 series or e92 bmw 3 series, can even buy a bmw M5 for that! - so much choice on pistonheads with that amount. Unless the Original Poster lacks all common sense and is buying on finance?

Hate the new corsas purely because theres 20 around here that are white with black wheels, all younguns thinking theyre amazing. Theres someone around here whos stuck the vxr kit on a 1.0 :-/

Nik_L
20th May 2012, 15:05
Reason there is alot of them going about is because the finance deals on them are pretty damn good, they are cheap to run and insure for a young driver.

Vauxhall are firing them out the door left right and centre. So the comments about them being a shit car are just stereo-typical. Alot of people need to be a bit more open minded.

Granted its not why i would spend my money on, but the people that do, obviously have a reason to do so. Comparing them to higher end stuff like Evo's and what not is just a bit retarded. Im sure if folk wanted that sort of car and could afford to run it, im sure they would buy 1 instead of a Corsa. But then again, most of these Corsa's will have been bought on finance which throws the Evo's etc out of the equation.

Also, if you have a brain in your head, you wouldn't be paying anywhere near the £13.5k list price.

the reason i consider those ltd edition corsas as such failures is because they remind me of just fake vxr's. People with them often say they have the 'vxr bodykit', although a glimpse of the rear end, with the non-triangle exhuast is such a massive giveaway!
and the fact it only has a slow 1.2 engine lol what a fail for £13k

Nik_L
20th May 2012, 17:01
But they look nothing like VXR's. The bumpers are different, wheels share no resemblance, interiors couldn't be any further apart.

Vauxhall are doing what BMW do with the M-Sport range, what Audi are doing with the S-line range, and so on. The VXR is the flag ship model, the SRi/LE is the civilised model. Like the M3 and the 3 series M-sport, or the S3 and the A3 S-line. Exactly the same thing, totally different cars.

Would you expect a 1.2 16v with 85bhp to set the world alight?? They aren't "slow", they are average for what they are. Infact 85bhp from the 1.2 is pretty good going, they are nippy at best.

Also they aren't £13k, walk into a dealership with your head screwed on and you will walk out with a good few £k off the list price.

People like you who think they are "fake VXR's", are worse than the people who say there car has the VXR bodykit.

got a funny feeling you might be trolling, but on the otherhand i think you do actually have your head up your arse on this matter.

im going to say this bluntly... i have no idea in the slightest of these 'ltd edition' corsas. All i know, is that when i see one from the front i think, ahh its a vxr, then when i see the side or back, i just think ohhh maybe not :homme:
its like its trying to look like a vxr but its just a fake one...
id be a bit ashamed driving one tbh!
but thats just me and my opinion

i said £13k becuase thats what the OP said btw

For that money I wouldn't want to be driving a Corsa. I don't dislike them as cars but it's a lot of money to end up saying you're driving a Vauxhall Corsa.

I take it you don't know what the VXR's look like then?? Nothing like these LE's for a start.

They aren't trying to look like VXR's either. They are trying to look like an LE Corsa, which is what they are.

Nice one mate. Nearly new is sensible, let someone else take the hit on depreciation.
