car 1998 saxo vtr
Right on monday there was a rather large amount of rain, and the roads near me literally flooded as the water couldnt get down the drains fast enough.
I drove through a puddle after comming off a speed bump, as soon as i hit the puddle i braked, then got to the end of the puddle and the car stalled.
The car would not start again, so i sprayed all connections/sensors i could see with wd40 to try and draw the water out.
after 3 hours the car started again, but when is revved to 2k or above the engine management light comes on and the car just drops revs again.
I cant drive the car either as as soon as i try to drive off the car just stalls.
Even when the car was started and just idleing, when i tried to push the car it just stalls.
I had it put it on a diagnostic machine and it showed up the stepper motor/idle sensor. So got one ordered and had it fitted.
Still no better, and with the new part fitted, its still showing up the same problem on the computer ffs!.
NB the car starts and idles fine, not lumpy, 'off', or smokey etc, so i dont think that any water has entered the engine, and i beleive it to be a sensor somewhere, but what else could it be?
or what sensor should i change? could it be the coilpack causing such problems?
help

the air intake in is the headlight in my morrette.
the filter was removed today and it has no signs of water etc.

Yes it would be abit pointless giving you any advice otherwise.
I nailed it through a puddle the car cut out then would miss fire (not go above 2k revs).
I whipped the plugs out after letting the engine dry out and replaced them, everything was fine.
Even if it doesn't solve the problem you've lost nothing as its always beneficial to change the plugs.

its just my brother had his intake under the front bumper and he went through a deep puddle, the intake sucked the water up into his engine. he has a bmc btw. fecked his engine right up.

Only go driving through puddles if you have a diesel!

you know how much a new ecu is gonna cost buddy then the reprogramming here someone who may be able to help with the ecu thing they may also be able to repair your old one http://www.atpelectronics.co.uk/index.htm there realy helpful much better than citroen and i dont think another ecu from another car will work cause of your immobiliser unless they fully reprogram it to your car

cheers dude.
Thing is, im over here in northern ireland.
Im flippin freaking out that this is gonna end up major expensive and ill bet its something stupid like a £20 sensor somewhere. I really hope its not the ecu as i dont understand how my ecu could just mess up?
And yeah i didnt think they could just take an ecu and 'try' it in my car?

No bother all i done was packed me ecu up sent it across and he replaced it with a new one reprogrammed it and fitted my programable eprom chip for the remapping he was really helpful i think they may even have outlets across the uk maybe even nothern ireland worth giving them a call citereon wanted £450 plus then £60 for programming these guys done the lot for under £250 and even offered £90 back for old ecu cause some of the components are useful to them

Chances are slim there not interchangable unless unlocked.

well ill give them a bell as i may well have to follow down that path.
Doing my head in, ud think the fcukin diagnostics would tell u the problem :upset:

I had a GT where the revs would stick at 3000rpm I was told it was the ECU.
It turned out there was a postive charge running through an Earthing wire this was killing all the ECU's thus causing the revving problem (3 ECU's in total).
The morale of the story is make sure the ECU is the actual problem before wating money on one.

Water in the intake will not totally keg the engine unless you have a liner leak but iron blocks don't have wet liners so don't see a problem.... it will only be affected for the period that the water is in the cylinders, and its not likely that much will go through the valves. I think you were along the right lines with the coil mate... its an electrical fault by the sounds of it, I believe the ECU may have got wet and the circuits fried though... this cost me £500 when the circuit went in my boiler last year lol

did that with mine last year... water went up to the head lights. I owned the f**king flood pow pow whilst all these other cars stalled and binned it in the water.
Hope you get it sorted man :Y:
I would have said with the rev being limited to 2k rpm that the ECU is at fault and needs resetting :)
