Right, gone are the days of a mobile phone being just a mobile phone. They're now so much more. I couldn't be without mine, personally.

So security is a big thing. This post will inform you of TWO apps. "Find My iPhone" and "IcaughtU"

First things first, head to the App Store and download "Find My iPhone". You WILL need to register and email address to this. Install the app, head to "settings" and make sure it's activated.

This app allows you to go to the website on ANY computer or iDevice and see the location of your phone on Google Maps. This is all well and good until they turn your phone off. However, if you simply misplace it, it gives you a good idea of where it is.

On top of this you can also send a message, audible tone and even wipe your device!

The next part is for JAILBROKEN iPhones only. Jailbroken phones can go one better.

Head to "Cydia" and download "IcaughtU". This app is awesome! This app works with your lock code. Install the app and head to settings to input your email address. While you're in the setting scroll down to "Power down device while locked" and click disable!

If your lock screen code is entered WRONGLY, your iPhone will instantly take a photo on the front camera and email the photo to you instantly. On top of that, it also stops them being able to turn off the device! Thus allowing you to continue tracking it with Fond My iPhone!

No iPhone should be without these apps/tweaks!

I guess one of the first thing a thief or someone who finds a phone (and decides to keep it) is take the sim card out thus making both apps useless as data connection will be lost.

Still handy to have though.

A data connection isn't needed for GPS which is how Find My iPhone works.

Yes but an Internet connection is needed for the phone to send its GPS location to the Find My iPhone website you're logged on to :y:

Find my iPhone is standard on 4S, no? I know you can turn it on/off in the settings. Then you just have to download it on whatever device you want to track it from.

Exactly. If you can provide a photo and location then the police would follow it up.

That's because you don't go on a website to track down your sat nav.

Try putting your phone in airplane mode with 3G, GPRS, WiFi (all data connections off) and search for your iPhone on the find my iPhone site..
