Ive always been led to believe they were the same, but comparing side by side, i cant help but notice gti's just look... smaller
anyone else noticed this?
They are near enough the exact same size arent they?
Same shell.
The body panels differ obviously.

i dont understand how theyre the same shell if the rear quarter window is shorter though? could the 106 shell be slightly shorter in length becuase of this?

the rear 3/4 is still a body panel.

ok, so without the windows in, does the 3/4 look identical to a saxo?
Maybe its the VT kit and big headlights that create the illusion?
its a different shell its the same chassis, engine and running gear

There is no seperte chassis to shell.
As said the body panels differ, not the actual shell.

pretty much the same bar a few panels.
106 boot fits a saxo
106 doors fit a saxo
106 wings fit a saxo
pretty much everything off a 106 fits a saxo bar the rear 1/4 windows

As said the chassis is the same. It's all the extra bulk the Saxo carry's that makes it look bigger such as the vt kit the rear bumper and the boot lid. When they all stripped to basic metal work they both look the same.

I do wonder why they made the quarter panels different though, cant see that having any benefit bar fitting the boot lid better maybe vs costs at least

Differentiating the range, pugeot designers possibly deciding they preferred the shorter window.
Utilising the same monocoque obviously helps keep costs down on a production line though.

so does anyone else happen to see the illusion of a 106 being smaller lol?

the rear window is just a different outer skin if you look at the two photos the line of the boot is exactly the same. just the c pillar is thicker.
but i see what you mean the saxo has a big ass compared to the 106

just had a butch over on parkers (not sure how accurate)
................length...width...height(mm)
mk1 saxo.....3737....1620...1390
..................................................
gti..............3678....1610...1357
which means a mk1 saxo is 59mm longer, 10mm wider, and 33mm wider :detective:

It's just body kit and bumpers
The Saxo has smoother lines which make it appear fatter
The 106 is sharper and more precise, just an optical illusion
They have to change the outer skin or why would you buy one over the other

Saxo's seem more cramped inside lol

yeah the vt kit over the door/arches make it look wider
ive always thought 106's were slightly smaller, never considered the vt kit making the difference though

of course bigger bumpers would make a huge difference.
Fact is they are based on the same monocoque, which was considerably more cost effective.
