would you own one or even go near one? i'm looking to change my car soon and literally have no idea what i'll choose.. just want something different, but came across this the other night - i know some look actual shit, but this looks pretty realistic!
its a toyota mr2 underneath so relatively cheap insurance-wise aswell.

what do you guys think? worth the risk or just buy something "safe" like an audi a3? haha..

Don't think I'd ever own one, because those who are interested enough to pay close attention to a "Ferrari" would know it wasn't one :P

This site do some pretty good looking kits, but once you've bought it all and fitted it, may as well just save a little bit more and buy the real thing...

Only prob with a rep is you know its not the real thing and everybody else would know as that would sound nothing like a Ferrari but would probably be more reliable;)

I would say stick to the real as i imagine these would be a pain to insure aswell ?

looks a pretty awesome site! dont think i'd ever do one myself though, too much hassle haha.. the real thing is like 5 times the price though :S

no one would know its not the real thing tbh, if it looks like it and if you drive it "normally" you wouldnt be able to tell? only giveaway is that im 19 years old... any 19 year old driving a real ferrari means 2 things. 1) hes won the lottery or 2) its his parents
im sure most insurance companies wouldnt even consider insuring me on a real ferrari aswell lol!

The exhaust note would be a MASSIVE givaway so you will be able to tell. Some look good but not for me personally.

Not a chance, buying a rep is for cheapskates. Just get a Mr2, will go the same and you wont look a monumental twat.

Tbh i don't think much of ferarris when i see one pass, I prefer something that's attainable like a evo. When a supercar passes I often just think poser anyway, 99% of the time its just a old guy who cant drive it properly

on idle/driving at low revs, really? :S personally i wouldnt be able to tell the difference.. especially driving past one

completely, full ferrari bodykit - you wouldnt be able to tell any difference - admittedly, some do look shit, but the one in the link looks pretty realistic to me..

Then your not really an enthusiast.

Anyone properly into their cars will know it's a rep, and you'll look like a cheapskate

They often have tiny brakes as well as lacking the v8/v10 rumble

Looks out of proportion, the door doesnt line up with the skirt, Front bumper doesnt line up straight either, and then anyone who thought it was a real ferrari would know it wasnt when they got into the cheap japanese interior.
Seriously, anyone fooled by that would be equally fooled by a standard mr2 with Ferrari badges on.

sometimes they can look quite convincing. The one you posted looks alright for an mr2 kit as they always look terrible, but things like the wheels/interior/brakes/the stance & wheel track/arch gap are a give away

id only ever own one if it was a spot on replica, like this

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3925048.htm

or this f430 based on a peugeot 406

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3779741.htm

but then for the price of a decent replica you have to think to yourself, surely i can get a better car and not be a fake?

decent reply! cheers mate.. yeah see what youre saying - have to spend atleast 15k to get a half decent replica.. wouldn't mind it as its literally a fraction of the real price, most females wouldnt even notice ;)

Buy that and put Ferrari badges on it. People who don't know what it is will think its a Ferrari, people who do will laugh at you. Exactly the same as what will happen with the replica but cheaper and more fun to drive

Biggest give away is the sound. A 2.0 N/A or 3.0 V6 is never going to sound like a Ferrari..

In my experience girls are rarely impressed by cars. and tbf once you get them out of the club and into the car your pretty much in there. Buy a big watch or something to impress girls lol.

Cant you get those old Ferraris like the one pictured for 30-40k now?

*replicas

The only time I would own a replica is if it built it myself, which I would never do. Therefore I would never own one :)

if that mr2 replica had the genuine 355 wheels (which will probs cost like a grand lol not including the custom hub adaptors)
and the stance was sorted out (spaced/lower)

and if it also had more convincing brakes/exhaust tone, id prefer to drive it than an everyday audi a3 which every jack & danny has these days

I am a bit of an asw though  i love the attention the e93 bmw gets of slags in the summer lol

Was arguing with a lad at college about this the other day he was saying they are "fucking mint!" and "tidy as fuck" I was saying I'd rather have aids. I said about even if you get it looking identical the noise would still be different he said a straight through would solve that problem:panic:

I said to him if you want to go around posing and trying to impress girls who won't notice the difference you would be better off buying a mini or fiat 500 for the money which most girls think are cute and will "impress" them.

The idiots I have to put up with at college!

theres an mr2 with this bodykit by me (as thats literally all it is) and tbh yo can very easily see its not the real thing the lines only look right from the basic angles people take photos from and when you see the car in the flesh things are out of proportion and generally dont look right

also the tiny brakes give it away

Yeah and I thought it was a 360:oops:

Was getting the saxo fixed a few years back and it was on the ramp, I asked the mechanic why it was in as he is kind of a French specialist he said it was a 406 getting a custom exhaust. As soon as I looked at the brakes it was obvious

Theres a guy by me with an 355 rep Mr2. Utter shed and fools nobody imo!
Only replicas I like are the AC cobras, Stratos, Chesil speedster etc, ie: things that are old and obviously commanding silly money for originals but where the replica is a faithful copy as or best as. Saying that though some cobra reps use sierra bits! Also for me its got to have a better or similar spec powerplant to the original, just like the lamborghini replicas using BMW v12s

There was a yellow 355 rep up Burnley a few weeks back. Drove past it and my mate said "thats a nice Ferrari!" the second I looked at it I knew something wasn't right and I said it's an mr2. Got home and checked the plate, low and behold, blue mr2.
All the shut lines just didnt match up and looked wonky.

Tommo87

^ it was in Burnley though so what did you expect.

Could be worse though like the lads who rent the Lambos put £10 fuel in and drive around Burnley centre, that's just poor.

dan 360 and 430 are one of the best kit cars
extream 360 and 430 look spot on ive seen them face to face give away is back seats lol and a few other things but based on size spot on

extream lambos are stunning if you get the right parts they even do big brakes so it dont look silly ..only thing is the dash it dont look right ...as for the seats they even use mr2 seats and change the headrest to look lambo and get it all trim up they look 99% the same without spending a few grand on real seats

replica's of any description are f*cking gay. They ruin everything.

I hate with a passion replica's, it takes away part of the appeal of the real thing because people then begin to question if it's real and they also think less of the real thing when they see a fake that they aren't aware is a fake.

It's like GTR skylines. You don't often see a REAL GTR yet the majority have had a GTR badge stuck on to them and that is really gay,

Not a fan of relica cars.

Insult to the real thing. Do it properly or accept that you can't and get something else. Its like getting a hood-rat and dressing her up as the Queen. She has clearly tried but she ain't fooling anybody.
