As with anything to do with the insurance industry this has to be a bag of bollocks...
Just wondering what were the hidden pitfalls of adopting a 10month as opposed to a 12month policy

You get a years no claims bonus faster, but in most cases it worked out to be chaper just to insure for a year rather than loosing two or more months just to get that extra 1 years ncb.
Depends on case to case

just a way for the insurance company to get more money, plus the years no claims itn't always valid for other companys

I have this Ads and it's a good way of getting another 1yrs NCB quicker.
Your policy runs for 304 days and it's cheaper than taking out the full 12 month policy.

yeah it sounds tempting but...
despite being cheaper overall, if you look at it on a 'per month' basis it works out more, not that that bothers me as i'll be paying in full anyways
Also i dont fancy limiting the choice of insurers the following year. hummm
Still tempted though...

I've done it, I rung my company and they said that any company accepted it as a years no claims. He spoke to me as if I was stupid for even asking...

Im on the bonus accelator... dident have a choice really, i wasent 18 when i insured my car and Bell wouldent let me pay monthly so it got paid in one lump sum. It was allot cheaper for the bonus accelerator (sp) than for the 12 month's and sean as i was paying in one go i thought i may as well do that.

i dont trust them. would rather have the 12 month policy and know that i have a full proper years no claims when looking for insurers the next year.

i have allways used 10month bonus accelerator and i also asked if this was only valid with certain insurers and they said no its valid to all insurers. also the difference each month from 12 to 10months the 10months cost £0.54p a month extra for me so if i was you go with the 10 month plan

I'm doing this 10 month accelerator scheme aswell with Admiral at the minute... It's my second year 2nd "year" with them on the 10 month scheme and like most other people I asked them if it was valid with all, or at least most insurers, to which they answered yes.
To be quite honest I'm not even sure why I chose to go along with it as it isn't all that much cheaper annually and as you say Ad, month-by-month it works out a little more expensive. Suppose my main arguement for this is that I'm a student and at 19 I want to build up my NCB's a.s.a.p. so I can increase my already substantial debt and get a nice new car when Uni is over and done with :)

didnt know admiral done this :)
gonna ring them and get them to move me onto that rather than the 12months im on atm
but im sure that on a advert i saw the 10months is limited to certain companys, so im not sure if its worth the risk at my age, as i wont pay out large amounts next year

I wouldn't do it personally... Had a lot of hassle with mine.
I took out one on my 17th birthday (9 month policy) with NU and was paying a ridiculous £262 a month on an Eastcoast. After 2 months I brought a Furio without *stupidy* checking insurance first thinking it wouldnt be to high, when I phoned up to change they wanted £400 a month for a Furio with all mods declared, and I could only declare 4, so I had to not declare the air filter otherwise they wouldnt insure me at all.
I then had no option but to buy a Corsa (ins group 1) and it went down to 170 a month, and I was allowed 2 weeks on temp cover for the Furio, so I had no choice and had to sell within the 2 weeks :(
Anyway, when it came up to the 9 months, I was ready to cancel, so I went to Quinn Direct, got a quote for my Corsa with 1 years NCB, at £40 a month, phoned them up and they wouldnt accept my 1 years NCB as I was still 17.
I then phoned up NU, annoyed that I had been a bit misled, and they said they wouldnt even send me proof of one years no claims yet anyway as i only get the *discount* of 1 years no claims applied to my policy after 9 months. I have to carry on to the 12 months to get the certificate through.
Fair enough I suppose, my insurance with NU then went down to 98 a month from January up until april when i cancelled. This had been one years in time so I should get my certificate through no problem...
Did they want to send me it?! No! Apparantly I had to contine my policy until october when the current policy ended, only then would they send the certificate of 1 years NCB.
To cut a long story short, I had got my quinn direct policy out and was still with NU who wanted me to carry on til october. Luckily Quinn-Direct kept offering me advice on what to say and I eventually got NU to send me my certificate.
I would never go with NU, and Quinn direct seems the way forward, you dont have to declare any body mods, and they also let young drivers drive other cars TPFT.
