I've been looking for a job so so long and nothing, this is my last resort to come on here and ask, does anyone know of jobs going in the Brighton area for part time students? I have 4 days a week off and just need some money! Sorry if this isnt the place to ask, delete the thread if you dont want it here. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. :y:

Plenty of resturants in Brighton don't need to be 18. Also you have the marina with the cinema/bowling/pizza hut etc...

clearly not desperate for a job.
I've been working a shit job for the past 9 months, in a factory. I can't even explain how much I hate the job, the people I work with, the whole thing is utter shite.
Therefore, I look for jobs everywhere. I ring people, buy newspapers, go on all the big job websites, ask around, (I have my whole local family and friends on the lookout for me), and I also walk around local towns and cities looking for ads in shop windows etc.
You wouldn't believe how many jobs I've applied for recently, and the lack of even an acknowledgement to my applications is depressing. As an example, (and for whatever reason, I kept count) I applied for 21 jobs on Sunday evening, through various websites. Took me over 4 hours. Got one email, saying my application would be looked over within the next 3 weeks (whatever that means). One acknowledgement out of 21 applications, now that is depressing.
I'm pretty desperate for a new job, there really aren't that many, and far too many people wanting what's available, so, Tontsy, before you go getting all high and fucking mighty with your "you're being fussy" comments, you try doing what me and thousands of others are doing, job searching. You might not be so quick to jump on all these bandwagons you seem to love so much. If you were in my position, or worse, out of work, you'd be struggling too.

Have to be 18 to work in a warehouse due to health and safety insurance.

Jobs these days really aren't as easy to come round as some people say, last november when I got made redundant from my old job, I must of applied for at least 20 jobs and none of them even bothered to get back in touch with me, let alone invite me for an interview. But I was VERY lucky that my old employer wanted me back at his company and I got offered my old old job back
There are jobs out there, but there are so many people applying for them (some cases in their hundreds), that realisticly it is very very hard to get a new job

have to agree brighton area is wank for work at the mo. loads of the big firms that are usually the big employers are all going bust or moving abroad. i was outta work six months. inbetwwen times i did shitty agency work but u really have to fight for that too. only things in area are gonna be retail, but most of the big ones like tescos and m&s asdas arent taking on staff either but are actually shedding staff to save more money

Why don't you try signing up with an agency? and I don't mean an escort one
MPHZONE
1st June 2012, 09:16
Thank you everyone for seeing my point of view! Pisses me off when people say im being fussy, I've literally applied for every job i can find. When i applied at tesco, the woman behind the counter said that i shouldnt get my hopes up as they are actually laying people off like Marcus said. I was also told by the guy at customers services in Asda that over 500 people had applied for 3 check-out jobs, madness. I think agency is my last option. Will have to look into it.

Agency is a good way into the door, as if you prove your self theyre more than likely to offer you a perm job.

Never expect an answer straight away. They might have a deadline and wait until then to reply to people.
Might be in same position as our compant. Every job advertised we get literally 600+ applicaitons at the minute, plus the random CVs people send in every week anyway in the hope they'll get hired. we arent a large company, and dont have a HR section, so replying to 99% of them is pointless as it would take people away from what they should be doing. Sounds harsh, but thats probably the stance a lot of places are taking at the minute as its just not cost effective to reply. We used to respond to every application, but just cant these days due to volume.

not necessarily true imo. If you know how to play the game, and apply for for several differnt ones, you can probably rake in a decent amount. I see people with no earnings in nicer furnished houses than mine, plus all new designer cloths, latest phone/gadgets etc, but no job...

I know, and do feel sorry as it seems the company is being ignorant. But several hundred letters saying 'sorry' costs a lot of manhours, not to mention postage costs.
Best bet is to ring a couple of them a few weeks after applying and politely ask them for feedback on your application if possible, to see why you were unsuccessful. Might give you a few hints at least for the next time.

1. you will have experience 2. you dont have to fit it around college 3. you have no idea how many jobs ive applied for so it might have been easy for you but for me and many other young people its almost impossible unless you know someone who can get you a job.

Offer to do free work experience for a week or so.
I managed to get an 'as and when' cleaning job thanks to a friend. Its a start and i'm constantly applying for any job that i could do.
Have you asked your friends/family to try and help you?
When i was at college I needed a job and took about 2 months to get one, try call centre's, I was 17, did 3 4 hour shifts a week at 7.25 an hour. It was too good to be true, market research stuff, so not like your too much of an annoying cunt either, if they don't want to do it they don't have too!
Then I left college and worked in almighty.. Asda as a delivery driver at 18. Lasted 6 months, don't ever work for asda.. Absaloute ***** :)
Left that and now in a decent job, I had no idea what to do or what would come my way, get out there early and keep trying. Agency is a good shout, whilst I was looking they came up with a couple of suggestions, even if the money is bad - it's experience and shows you have worked, making you more appealing to the next employer!
tl;dr apply loads, be persistent, blast the interview, work and move on. lol
