anyone with admiral be aware everyone is on "auto renewal" which means unless you ring/write and cancel (28mins so far on hold at premium rate) youll be charged for another policy!!! (at more then it initially cost!!!!)
fucking wankers are taking the piss!! 30 mins on a fucking mobile with no answer to an 0845 number
if i call for any other enquiries then renewal pack... it takes minutes to get through!!
just done some online searching..LOADS of ppl have been stung..many being charged again without knowledge or permission from credit and debit cards
ppl in debt and major hassle through them taking money automatically!!
sitting here raging...want to hang up but ill have to do the cunt again to cancel it!!! :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

They are supposed to send you the renewal paperwork at least 3 weeks before the policy ends, I never recieved it but I knew when my policy finished on so I decided to phone them and get them to auto cancel it anyway like 3 weeks before.
Ouch.. I'm with Admiral.
As I understand it every insurance company will renew your policy though, unless you actually contact them to cancel it? Have they taken more money prior to the renewal?

not yet mate..most dont do that any more...these are actually doing it..but not even prompting for money...just going into where the initial payments came from and taking the balance

looks like i've got this to come begining of july.
what takes the piss is that my policy ends on the 2nd july. and i'm 21 on 9th july.
so i'm going to have to cancel the policy, take a new one out for 2 weeks and re-cancel and take another policy out just so i can get it cheaper due to age. hopefully it'll only cost the £22.50. temp cover places want £40 :(

I got mine recently with tesco, and i got the option to untick the box for auto renewal.. Had hastings get me with it a few years back, id bought a new policy, then they had taken money, put slapped another 400 ontop of the previous years premium, when they came second when i looked for new insurance, been 300 cheaper than the previous year!
So by that standard, you get charged 700 quid extra, for not taking your custom elsewhere!

Why not ring at a sensible time during the day instead of at peak times if you don't like waiting? Just a suggestion. When I rang Admiral at about 2pm I waited about 2 mins and was through.

I had a problem with them the other day.
Rang up reported someone drove into my car and drove off (this was 2 years ago).
Monday receive a letter from admiral stating i hadn't reported this incident to them although i never claimed when someone went into the back of me and drove off without getting their details. It was a minor scrape so rather than claim i sorted it myself, but reported it to them just to cover my back if anything were to arise.
The letter read they have charged me £120 for this incident (this being 2 months into the policy). Outraged they had already charged me for something i reported 2 years ago and for taking money out of my account without approval. As my insurance was only £400 for the year, they were charging me 30% for something i never claimed on and wasn't my fault.
I was on the phone to them for a full 30 minutes with them disputing they had to charge me, i was very firm on the phone call as they would not budge started arguing i would take them to a small claims court. Later that day i received a phone call back from them saying sorry Mr Baker your money will be back in your account within the next 5 working days.
Admiral suck but i won in this case.

admiral actually rate it cheaper to park your car on the street than in a drive/garage.
because they shed out thousands on retards who scrape it when parking :y:
GJF47, that'll be to do with the postal code of the area. Not admiral.
I've pretty much always used Admiral. Never had any issues, and they're always super cheap.

its just the fact im calling on a mobile to premium rate..i can call on a landline to any other department and get through immediatley

Been with Admiral for two years
No issues :y:
When they send you a renewal letter, it clearly states " Do nothing to accept this " :D
True story that
But it's stupid running a quote as a new customer always comes up cheaper than the renewal offer :wall:
Giving customers premium rate numbers to ring for renewal reasons is not fair.

It's good business y0.
They make a tonne of revenue because people are either too lazy to phone in and query the policy, don't read the mail sent to them or are not intelligent enough to realise the price they offer isn't the best price.

I'm with Admiral and rang up before the policy was over to get a better. First quote of a renewal they wanted £1300 when I'd only paid 980 for the first year, so I read off a quote of theirs that i'd done online for a new customer that was cheaper than £980 and they then matched that price. It'll be a rip off if you arent wary but if you can early you'll at least know the score

been wary of this myself so did some quotes few weeks back on the del sol and saxo (on multicar with sisters puma on policy to) got the renewal stuff through a week or so ago and tbf the premiums when broken down worked out cheaper on both my cars than separate will double check over weekend to make sure though

So, your problem is that you have to spend a few minutes on the phone to cancel the policy?
You can also write a letter to cancel iirc...
I've canceled my policy about 3 or 4 times now, due to only needing to drive 6 months of the year, it's only taken a couple of minutes to get through.

Admiral and Elephant are all part of the same company aiii?
Got my renewal e-mail through from elephant, done a quote on their site, got it £200 cheaper and upgraded protection (F/C from TPF+T) from their renewal.. So rang them, was on hold for all of 5 mins they matched the online quote. All good, although they didn't update my online documents so I had to send a few e-mails to get that sorted. Can't complain.
0845 numbers are only premium rate because you're calling off a mobile. IIRC they are free from BT lines, so use a phone box if you don't have a land line, I rang my bank once and was on the phone for about an hour, got my phone bill, instead of £45 it was like £72.. So you'll cringe when you catch your phone bill next month. It also says in your policy information small print about the auto-renewal. You could just cancel the standing order if you can't get through in time? Dunno if this will incur a charge or not though with them, though I'm sure if you moaned about not being able to get through to update details etc they might be compassionate, who knows?

Possibly, although my home insurance is way cheaper in the new area. Also, I thought Admiral, Elephant and Bell were supposed to be the same. All my quotes for the Saxo were identical and before buying the Leon I had a quote which Elephant and Bell came back around £100 more. Rang Admiral to change and they wanted nearly £300 or something stupid like that. They said that they can't give the same prices as Bell or Elephant on that occasion.

See this guy read the thread and took on board the problem, I had to hang up after 36mins as its gonna be fucking mental when I get the bill, they are fully aware of this, that's why they do it
I pay up front do they would have tried to take the full amount out of my bank lol, it's sorted now, the manger got me a call back this morning, to compensate they're going to try do me a massive deal when I get a new car
But from what I've read online just cancelling direct debit isn't enough, they supposedly hunt you down for the money, trying to charge you fro the period you had ins untill it's all sorted, at best you get away with a large admin fee apparently
So just be aware ppl :y:
