View Full Version : Respray opinions

My car has a dented driver-side wing and dented door, and I'm not sure if it's going to be possible for me to 'buff them out' so to speak so I'm looking at buying a new wing and door.

I've found a VTR wing and door but they're blue and my car's red. How hard would it be (realistically I have no experience, but I'm learning new things with cars every day!) for me to respray on my own?

I will upload pictures of the door and wing when I find my camera if people wouldn't mind giving opinions on whether the dents can simply be hammered out instead, too.

Only problem with a respray or replacement is the fact that it won't be the same colour as the rest of the car (even though it is) and what I mean by that is.. paint on cars become weathered over the years and change like red cars tend to turn pink because of the sun.

Imo buy a white car.

Not entirely true, I resprayed a lot of my car had the paint matched and mixed professionally and after I finished spraying I wet sanded and used a 3 stage buffing compound then applied a high glaze seal to the car and all panels match perfect except a small bit of orange peel here and there but the colour is bang on!
Check my thread to see it :)

Even some "pro's" work looks shit, what chance have you got of getting a good finish on your driveway :homme:

Even getting panels the same colour you run into the same problems. My passenger door is slightly darker than the rest of the car.

I only did the bottom half, the tail gate, the bonnet and the passenger wing on mine, everything else was masked off and theres no difference in colour.

If you're planning on doing it yourself I assume you're planning on using rattle cans? they leave a crap finish anyway.

Alright thanks guys, I'll stick around for a part in the right colour or something. Will rethink my strategy.
